Obituary of John W. Christel

John W. Christel passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 26, 2016. He was 77 years young. Born and raised in Morristown, John was in one of the first graduating classes from Morristown High School. He later graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He was a very hard worker with a work ethic that can only be compared to his father. John started his own accounting firm called Business Concepts. Following that, he was the Vice President of finance for Denby USA in Somerset. He then started his own Carpentry Service called Heritage Woodworks. When he passed he was working for the Home Depot in the Roxbury Mall as their Kitchen Designer. John had many loyal customers from the Home Depot. John loved to spend time at the track; horse racing was a guilty pleasure of his. He was also an avid baseball and Yankees fan. He had a passion for wood working and collecting model trains. Above everything else, John was a family man. He loved going on road trips, traveling, camping, and spending time with his family. He was a remarkable husband, father, grandfather, friend, and man. His legacy will live on in our hearts and souls forever. Son of the late Francis “Tamp” and Clara Christel, he is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Margaret (Hronich); his loving children, MaryLynn Christel Thom and her husband Ken of Elizabeth, CO, Jodi Brandal and her husband William of Clyde Park, MT, Jeri Krish and her husband Andrew of Gardnerville, NY, Jessica Becker and her husband Russell of Pensacola, FL, Jason Christel of South Lake Tahoe, CA, and Maggie Incera and her husband Spencer of Blairstown, NJ; his cherished grandchildren, Samantha, Emma, and Peter; his caring siblings, William Christel and his husband Ed DeBartoli of Escondido, CA and Elizabeth Gibbins and her husband David of Lake Pleasant, NY; many dear nieces and nephews; and many treasured grand dogs. Public Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 1st from 4 – 8 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ 07834. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, June 2nd at 11:00 am at Restland Memorial Park, 77 Deforest Ave., East Hanover, NJ 07936.
