Obituary of Doris Anita Judge
Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Doris Anita Judge (nee Bried) of Ashburn, VA, formerly of Denville, passed in her sleep on April 18, 2015, at Heritage Hall. She was 87 years old.
She was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and graduated from Packer Collegiate Institute. She spent summers at Indian Lake in Denville, with her family, and it was here that she met her husband, John and many of her life-long friends.
As a newlywed living in New York, Doris worked at Reid & Priest as a legal secretary, and enjoyed the detail-oriented work. When she and John moved to Denville, Doris worked at Warner-Lambert in Morris Plains, before becoming a stay-at-home Mom.
She was active in the Indian Lake Community, and volunteered at her children’s schools.
Doris loved to do needlepoint, and many of her pieces decorated the walls of her home. She enjoyed playing bridge with her girlfriends, traveling, reading and spending time with her family and friends.
She moved to Virginia in 1999, but remained a Denville resident at heart. Many of her friends remained in New Jersey, and always referred to Denville as her home.
Her husband John died this past January and she is also predeceased by her brother Robert Bried.
She is survived by her children, daughter Susan (Judge) Colby and son-in-law Joe of Greensboro, NC, and grandchildren, Zachary Austin Colby and Jessie Watters-Pelton Colby, also of Greensboro, NC, and her son, John Jr. of Ashburn, VA as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at Stjude.org.
Memorial services will be held for both she and her husband John on Saturday May 30, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Avenue Denville, NJ. Friends and family will be visiting from 12:00 Noon until time of services.
Burial will take place in Denville Cemetery following the Funeral.
