Ever since Carol's daughter Jane and I were married in 1978, I found her mom to be the best mother-in-law anyone could ever hope to have. She was always pleasant and a joy to talk to (with the ever present smile), and she provided us invaluable help with our kids when they were young. In the latter years of her life as she needed more assistance in daily activities, I tried to help out as much as I could, but I couldn't even come close to making up for all the things she did for us. Carol had a great sense of humor, a fantastic memory, and had the most interesting stories to relate. We feel blessed that our son, Doug, had the opportunity to live with his grandmother for the last several years of her life, tending to her immediate needs while forming a loving bond that will be part of him for the rest of his life.
