Obituary of William F. Treanor
William F. “Bill” Treanor passed away after a brief illness on January 10, 2025.
Bill was born on February 20, 1943, in The Bronx, New York to Joseph J. and Anna (Woodruff) Treanor, the second of their three children. The family relocated to Williston Park, Long Island in 1959. Despite the distance, Bill commuted to The Bronx and graduated from Mount Saint Michael Academy in 1960. Bill attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1964.
After a brief teaching stint, Bill attended Fordham University earning an MBA. He then began a 34-year banking career with Manufacturer’s Hanover Trust Company. His responsibilities included management of bank real estate and planning for Y2K. These responsibilities evolved over the years through the bank’s many mergers until he retired in 2002 from J.P. Morgan Chase Bank. During these years, Bill was a member of “The Huckleberry Indians” at the New York Athletic Club. He enjoyed traveling and touring in the United States and Europe. A diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease shortly after retirement sidelined his plans to travel the world.
In 2012, Bill moved to Denville, New Jersey to be closer to family. With Parkinson’s impacting his daily life, Bill sought new medical options. In 2018 and 2019, Bill had D.B.S (deep brain surgery). This was a blessing and allowed Bill to stay active and independent.
Bill loved entertaining and hosting dinner gatherings. Holidays were his specialty and he included as many family and extended family members and friends as possible. Wine selection was his forte.
In 2018, Bill planned his 75th Birthday party from soup to nuts and gathered friends and family from around the country to celebrate with him. In October 2022, Bill and his New Jersey family accomplished his long-held wish to visit the Atlanta Treanor family for a long weekend. His last trip was in September 2024, when he ventured to New York for his friend, Patricia Reddy’s 80th birthday party!
Bill is survived by his loving brother, Joseph “Bud” and his wife, Rosemarie Treanor of Woodstock, Georgia, his sister, Barbara and her husband, Robert Long of Mount Tabor, New Jersey, his dear friends, John Reddy and Christian Smith of Franklin Park, IL and Patricia Reddy of Mount Kisco, New York as well as 9 nephews and nieces and 20 great nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his nephews, Rob Long (1999) and Stephen Long (2022).
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 5 PM to 8 PM at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ 07834 www.normandean.com.
