Obituary of Josephine A. Vegso
Josephine A. Vegso - Cioci Josie to her family - beloved mother, aunt, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 100. Born in Plains, Pennsylvania, in 1924 to Adolph and Rose Dmochowski, she was a vibrant spirit and the youngest of eight children, sharing a special bond as a twin with her sister Julie.
Cioci Josie moved to New Jersey after graduating high school. It was here that she met her devoted husband, Ernest, while working at Picatinny Arsenal in Wharton during World War II. Together, they built a life filled with love, settling in Denville to raise their cherished son, Daniel. After the passing of her husband in 1999 and her son in 2015, Josephine remained resilient, drawing strength from her family and community.
An active member of St. Mary’s Church, Cioci Josie dedicated her time to the Prayer Shawl Ministry, where her incredible talent as a crocheter shone brightly. Known as the fastest and most skilled artisan, she delighted in creating crocheted animals, toys, dolls, and blankets, sharing her gifts with family and friends.
Cioci Josie was also a valued member of the Denville Seniors, where her lively personality and infectious laughter brought joy to many. Her legacy of love, creativity, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at St. Mary’s Church on November 9, 2024 at 1:30 pm with burial at Denville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to St. Mary’s Prayer Shawl Ministry, 15 Myers Avenue, Denville, NJ 07834.
Please share a condolence or your favorite memory of Cioci Josie here to continue to celebrate her life and let her light shine.
