It's with indescribable grief to learn that my beloved brother, Elmer, has gone to a place beyond the sunset. His recent trip to the Philippines gave me the opportunity to visit our place of birth, Dingras, Ilocos Norte. Since we are just separated by a couple of years, there were two questions he asked with eyes sparkling with great joy. Is this the river where we used to swim? Is this the ricefield where we used to gallivant and sometimes riding on a carabao? Those memories of our youth when we went fishing on the river after a day or two of downpour, the river would be inundated and fishes would abound. As they say, a gift of nature. After a good catch, we grilled them and savored the food. We were " Young Men and the River." The ricefield, sans agricultural pesticides then bring memories of us gathering snails and cooked for food. Surprisingly, when I visited him there in the USA, we had the chance to order, as you call it there , escargot. We were then laughing how pricey it gets there.
So for now My Dear Brother, travel well and when I see you in the sun, I will tell you much.

Elmer was genuinely passionate at all the things he did. I have the utmost respect for his integrity and dedication not only to his profession but also to his family and to the volunteer work he has done. A man of few words but when he spoke, people listened. Rest in peace Elmer. Your legacy will remain in our hearts.

Condolences to the Gilo family.
Doc Elmer has been a member of SP Golf Club since it was organized in the 1980’s. I’ve known him when I joined the club to be calm and soft spoken guy. He’s very kind in everything even giving a free stoke in a golf game. His last tournament played with SP Golf was on July 27, 2024 at Sunset Valley GC. He was supposed to join us in our annual trip to Myrtle Beach, SC last October 2-7 but he backed out the last minute due to his condition.
We will miss Doc Elmer!!!

Doc, you took our family in when Dr Yap retired and my mother loved seeing you. You took me in as a patient when I got out of Navy and treated me extremely well. When a problem came up you knew were beyond your scope, you referred me to the best doctors around who took care of things first time. A true sign of how compassionate a person you were, even though you did not have priviileges at St. Clares at the time, you took the time to visit my dying mother and refused to accept payment for the visit.
Thank you again for all your hard work over the years.. Caring doctors like you are a rarity these days.

Elmer touched so many lives in a wonderful way as he cared for his patients with compassion and understanding. Using his extensive medical knowledge to ensure that everyone received the best medical care possible. Thank you Belen and all of his family for sharing him with us.
Now may the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. And may God give you His peace in your going out and in your coming in, in your lying down and in your rising up, in your labor and in your leisure, in your laughter and in your tears… Until you come to stand before Jesus in that day in which there is no sunset and no dawning. Amen

I am deeply saddened by the loss of my mentor, Dr. Elmer Gilo. He took me under his wing as a new nurse practitioner. He taught me how to be the best clinician and maintain a great bedside manner. Dr. Gilo was also the family physician of the Sisterhood and Brotherhood of the Frying Pans. He took care of all of us and our family. He was considered as a brother and uncle by everyone.
I am forever grateful for everything that you have taught me and for being the first one to congratulate me when I obtained my doctorate. You will be remembered as a compassionate clinician with excellent skills, and a graceful dancer with your wife, Dr. Belen Gilo. You will never be forgotten.
While I cannot be there to honor you, you are always in my heart and will be a part of the Sisterhood and Brotherhood of the Frying Pans. I am glad we kept in touch and hung around during parties.
Our deepest sympathy to the family and friends who were left behind. Please send healing prayers to everyone experiencing sadness with his passing. He is with us, smiling.
We love you! Rest in eternal peace, Doc! Thank you for everything. You are an angel to all of us.
John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."

Q: What 3 words best describe Dr. Elmer and why?
A: Dr Elmer Gilo is a very dear friend a spouse of a Sorority Sister Belen. I’ve met him when I was recruited and joined the UERMMMAFUSA, Inc. He was a very thorough and very detailed worker of our Foundation the reason why we clicked and worked well together. He was strict in following rules and regulations as well as laws that concerns our organization’s status. He once said that we “are alike in many ways because” we are protocol guided. I admired him as a fellow Trustee and as the best treasurer of our AFUSA organization. He singlehandedly reviewed all the financial records of the foundation and tabulated everything expenses, grants, donations as well as investments growth. And once a year gives reports to the entire body of the National Organization’s membership. He has done excellent reporting to the governmental agencies that oversee our Charitable organization. He has a very admirable quality in him, he’s a straight shooting friend as well as trustee. He had been highly dependable as a co- officer and trustee. There were times that his encouraging words when one felt giving up can make one carry-on the burden of being a leader during my presidency then as a chairman of the Foundation. There were good memories of our working together and that I will keep forever in my heart. To a great friend and supporter, to the best treasurer I have worked with, I would say”Goodbye dear friend, you will be remembered always. May God Bless you in your travel to the bosom of our Lord.”
Prayers for you from your friend,
Vickie

I will always remember our dinners with our crew. We shared many laughs. I’m so blessed to have known and worked with you and to have you as one of my cherished friends. God needed another Angel and he chose you. I always enjoyed chatting with you about your trips you would go on. I always loved your contagious laugh and it would always make me smile. My life has been better for having you in it. You will always be in my heart. Your friend, Dawn

My beloved brother Elmer,
Thank you for the memories, childhood anecdotes, laughters, expressions of love through the years. As a youngster, you were not only the family’s biggest entertainer but our town voted you the Young Elvis Presley. But…you are monotonous and cannot carry a tune. The judges liked your ukulele coupled with your ala Elvis hip gyrations. You credited me as your inspiration knowing I was a big Elvis Presley fan.
I will miss hearing your birthday wishes and will miss giving mine to you.
You finished the last chapter of your life’s journey which is full of milestones and accomplishments. Life well-lived.
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal”.
So long my dearest brother till we meet again. Thank you for the wonderful times, priceless bonding and cherished memories. We will miss you and you will always be in our hearts.
May the Good Lord bless you and keep you my beloved brother. May you Rest In Peace. Amen

The BEST doctor ever! He navigated my family and myself through many illnesses with a cheery attitude and a smile. Never for a moment was he “doom and gloom”. One of a kind. Rest well, Dr. Gilo.
