Obituary of Evelyn Washkau

Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Evelyn Washkau, 94, of Pompton Plains, NJ, formerly of Parsippany, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 6, 2024.

Born as Grace Evelyn Boyle to Frederick and Caroline (Czernicki) Boyle, Evelyn, as she was known, grew up in Irvington. She graduated from Irvington High School and Berkeley School. Evelyn worked as a secretary before marrying William “Bill” Washkau in 1952. They made their home in Irvington until settling in Parsippany in the early 60s.

Evelyn was an avid antique collector, who ran estate sales for many years. She and the family traveled in their big white trailer known as “Moby Dick”, camping all over the east coast. Eventually she and Bill transitioned from camping to building their dream vacation home in the Outer Banks of NC, where Evelyn loved to spend her summers.

She was a long-time parishioner of St. Ann R.C. Church in Parsippany and volunteered for many years at Hope House in Dover. Evelyn loved reading and was known to read the Star Ledger every day, cover to cover, right until the end.

Predeceased by her husband, William, and her brother, William Boyle, Evelyn is survived by her children, Michael (Pam); Patricia (Ron Bujtas); William (Jeanne) and Christopher (Lynda) Washkau; her grandchildren, Sarah, Jesse, Kyle, Krista, Brittney, Kristie, Victoria, Elizabeth, Jared, Alexandria, Michael and Jonathan; as well as 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, October 9th from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Norman Dean Home for Services in Denville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Ann R.C. Church in Parsippany on Thursday, October 10th at 11:00am. Cremation will be private.
