Pat and I played football together at Morristown High on a team that in those few short years developed a great closeness to one another, as well as to the other kids there and our community. He was a smiling, giving and friendly leader then and continued that throughout his life. We loved him. He was a friend and I will think of him often. My sincerest condolences to his family.

We met in 1955 at Alexander Hamilton Elementary School. Two sixth graders about to celebrate our 12th birthdays. I was almost 30 days older. As we aged, each year he enjoyed making a call on my birthday celebrating that he was younger. Sadly, last year we weren’t sure either one of us would be here for either birthday. I sent him a letter reminiscing of the times that we had together, great times! He was quite a character. Over the years, we have been connected subconsciously. For either one of us life in this world or any other world will not be the same without each other. To my best friend, my hero, my “one and done guy“ I will miss you. I love you Pat.
It has been said that we die twice, once physically and second when no one says your name or remembers you. So, perhaps thanks to the technology he rejected, the next time you see the words " # of characters left" you will remember him and say his name "PAT SMITH."
To Karalee, Jeff, and Amy, we love you!

Mr. Smith, or as we knew him, The Chief, was more than just a neighbor; he was family. I could always count on him to have a kind word and a comforting smile. He was the epitome of calm and collected, and we will miss him dearly.

Karalee and family… our deepest condolences on the loss of Pat. He was such a good soul with a wonderful way about him. Tony, of course has known your family longer than I, but getting to know Pat and you was a fun experience. We loved our MHS luncheons, at which time many memories would be shared. Rest in peace, Pat. Love to you all.

Cousin Pat, You and your brother Paul were my nearest older cousins. I lived next door to our grandparents on Mills St. you lived around the corner on Kenmuir Ave. Our mothers were working nurses, and we walked to grade school at Alexander Hamilton. So at lunch time we would walk back to 60 Mills, where our grandmother served us wonderful lunches every school day! You were 6 years ahead, and Paulie 4 years, so I was very sad when you went on to Morristown High and couldn’t join us for lunch, but I still had Paul for a couple years. Then it ended, and that’s kind of how I feel right now. Such a big part of my past is gone! So many more memories, but this one captures my sadness at this time of deep loss. Rest in peace, dearest cousin! I will love and remember you always. Deepest sympathies to Karalee, Jeff, Amy, Paul, Dale, and families.
Love, Cousin Joe

Paddy oh Paddy! I met you In our freshman year at Morristown high school and we became better and better friends through those four years. I don't dare embarrass your family with any of the stories! Karalee remembers me picking her up from her home in Morris Plains and bringing her late to school many mornings. This was before you two were an item. Who was to know?
My condolences to the family. May the memory of his hilariuos and generous personality lift you up in the days to come.

Pat and I would often play cards at the caddy shack at Morris county Country Club in our wild young days. We would play till it got pitch black and we had to light match boxes in order to see the cards. When we finally desired it was just too damn dark to see, we would leave the card shack walk across the dark golf course and hitch hike down route 24 back to Morristown. Both of our mothers never quite figured it out. I believe these experiences, more indirectly, created Pat’s love of golf, a game he learned to play very well. I must admit he accomplished this in spite of his playing with me. He often dropped the put while I broke the clubs. This balanced our play on the course.

You couldn't find a better person, friend, cousin than my cousin Pat.
Born just two months and two weeks ahead of me, he always was (self imposed) like an older brother, and I didn't mind. I always deferred to his preferences, and I know he appreciated it.
We were both starting centers on our respective high school football teams. He at Morristown High, and me at lowly Bayley Ellard. We commiserated about the beatings we took at Saturday's game at Grandpa Petrozzo's Sunday dinner table. We both had the bruises and fatigue to prove our worth, and Grandpa, on the sly without Grandma seeing, would cut us some slack and fill our wine glasses a bit fuller for it.
At 17, when I got my driver's permit, Pat taught me how to drive, and drive fast..
We did a little carrousing, met some of his girlfriends, and I introduced him to a few of mine, cruised around SipNSup on Rt 10, the usual stuff bored kids did back then.
One Sunday in the early 80s the phone rang and after I answered I heard his highly effusive and indomitable voice " I finally FIGURED it out ". What Pat? Whadahyatalkin bout? How Grandpa made his sauce!!! HOW, WHAT?? He fried his meatballs, FRIED THEM, and then made the sauce from ALL the drippings. That's, that's, cousin Bryan, how he got his sauce so thick".
Ah, yes. You just don't get a better buddy, cousin, friend than Pat.

Q: What will you never forget about Patrick?
A: I remember Pat as friendly, warm and supportive. We were homeroom classmates at Morristown High School and I always enjoyed his company. I loved his sense of humor.
