Obituary of Bernard J. McGovern

Bernard J. McGovern passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home with loving family by his side on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 in Rockaway, NJ. He had shared 87 years of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories with family and friends.

 

Born in Jersey City, NJ the son of Irish immigrants, Bernard and Margaret McGovern (nee Maguire) of County Cavan. He has lived with his wife, Carol Ann, in Rockaway, NJ for the last 55 years. A graduate of Don Bosco Prep and St. Peter’s University, Bernard earned a master’s degree in taxation from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

 

Bernard and Carol McGovern married in 1961 and raised 3 sons; Kevin, Mark, and Steven while he worked as the Director Tax for Baker Industries and served on the Rockaway Twp. Town Council before his retirement. Bernard was a parishioner at St. Cecilia R.C. Church in Rockaway and coached various junior sports teams in the Rockaway Twp. Recreation Department.

 

Surviving is his beloved wife, Carol Ann; his 3 sons Kevin, Mark, Steven and his 3 grandsons Michael, Thomas, and Charles.
 
Public Visitation will be held on Monday, September 9th from 3 – 5 pm & 7 – 9 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ. Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, September 10th at 10 am at Norman Dean Home for Services. Burial will follow at St. Cecilia Cemetery, Rockaway, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted in Bernard’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or by clicking here.
