Obituary of Frank James Puopolo

Frank James Puopolo, Jr., endearingly nicknamed “Butchie”, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Morristown Medical Center. He had shared 78 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and unforgettable memories with family and friends.

Born and raised in Newark to the late Dorothy Boyd and Frank J. Puopolo, Sr., Frank was one of two children in their household. He grew up alongside his sister, Linda, in Kearny, where they attended Kearny Public Schools and St. Cecilia Catholic School. From an early age, Frank exhibited a remarkable drive and work ethic. He began his career with the Newark News before proudly serving our country in the United States Army. He received his Honorable Discharge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service & Campaign Medal, and more in 1967. On October 3, 1971, he married his best friend and soulmate, Vivien B. McGuinn, and together they began their family in North Arlington before finding their forever home in Lake Hiawatha. Frank continued his work at the printing press for the Newark News, which became the Star Ledger and he also worked for the Daily Record and Home News. Frank was a dedicated member of the New Jersey Mailers Union – Teamsters, Local 1100, since 1965. He officially retired in 2013, not too long before his beloved Vivien passed in 2014. 

Frank had a deep passion for working on his cars and was an active member of the Tri-County Cruisers, where he enjoyed sharing his love for muscle cars with fellow enthusiasts. His garage was his sanctuary, a place where he found joy and satisfaction in his projects. In addition to his automotive pursuits, Frank had a profound appreciation for coffee. He found comfort and pleasure in his daily cup, specifically from Dunkins’. He loved sharing coffee and donuts with friends and family during precious gatherings. Above anything else, his family was his pride and joy. His grandchildren could do no wrong and time spent with them at parties, games, and events was always a memorable experience and he always showed up. Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing that Frank is now reunited with his beloved wife, Vivien; his parents, Dorothy and Frank, his sister, Linda Ascone and his nephew, Tony.

His legacy will live on in the hearts of his loving children, Christoper Puopolo, Renee Fiumara and her husband Joe, and Michelle Puopolo; his treasured grandchildren, Marissa Fiumara, Derrick Conley, Alexa Fiumara, Isabella Puopolo and Nicholas Puopolo; his caring nephews, Frankie and his wife Sharlene and Ryan and his wife Kristy; and many more dear friends, comrades, and associates.

Relatives and friends are welcome to pay their respects on Monday, August 19th from 5 - 8 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, August 20th at 9:30 am at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow immediately at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover.
