Obituary of Dominic A. Battaglia Jr.

Please share a memory of Dominic to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dominic Anthony Battaglia Jr. passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 in Denville. He had shared nearly 72 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and unforgettable memories with family and friends.

Born in Dunkirk, NY to the late Laura Cinelli and Dominic A. Battaglia, Sr., Dominic was raised alongside his four siblings in Fredonia, NY. As a young man, Dominic was the drummer in his band, Shades of Darkness. His passion for music was present throughout his entire life, especially music of the 60s. He graduated from St. Anthony’s Elementary School and then Fredonia High School in 1970. Dominic thrived when helping others; he was compassionate, generous, loyal, and wise beyond his years. His occupation always focused on providing service to customers and clients. His career as a manager at a local favorite spot, Mister Donut, in Olean, NY was where he was commemorated by his “gang” as a “Great Boss”. Eventually, life’s journey brought Dominic to NJ where he spent many years as the personal driver and chauffeur for the Chairman and CEO of H & M Trucking in Secaucus. Because he enjoyed working on home repairs and remodels, Dominic attended school for plumbing. This led to a successful career with Home Depot where he became a Kitchen Designer. Dominic served the Roxbury community for nearly 25 years, establishing a solid reputation as a customer favorite. He married his best friend, Marlene Luca, on October 8, 2000 and as they say, the rest is history. They traveled together, trusted one another, and created memorable experiences that will live on for generations to come.

Dominic was the type of person who would selflessly go the extra mile in order to make someone else’s day a little easier or even just brighter. He wouldn’t think twice about helping a stranger, never mind someone that he actually cared for. His attention to detail was unparalleled, whether it came to the remodel for your home or just the tiny details of your life. Dominic was mindful. He had a way of making you feel heard, which made you feel special. He truly was a remarkable man. We will forever remember him, especially when Bob Seger comes on the radio, snapping his fingers along to the music, loving life. Despite the fact that we are profoundly upset by his passing, we take comfort in knowing that Dominic is safe from all of life’s worries and is now reunited with his parents and brothers, Frank and Richard.

His legacy will live on in the hearts of his devoted family, his beloved wife, Marlene; his adored daughter, Christina and her husband Michael; his treasured grandsons, Patrick and Ryan; his sisters, Wendy Barlette and her husband Robert and Cynthia Frost and her husband Kevin; his dear nephews, Nicholas Barlette, Robert Barlette Jr., Steven Barlette, Michael Battaglia and Frankie Battaglia; his nieces, Alexandra and Maria; and many extended family, friends, and customers.

Memorial Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 22nd from 3 – 6 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 23rd at 10 am at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 10 North Pocono Road, Mountain Lakes.
