Obituary of Alan H Dorer
Alan H. Dorer died Sunday, July 28, 2024 at his home in Boonton Township, NJ. He was 60 years old.
Alan was Warehouse Manager with Zabransky Mechanical Corp. in Little Ferry, NJ for the last 7 years. For many years prior to that Al had his own general contracting business.
Born in Morristown, he grew up in the Lake Valhalla neighborhood of Montville. Al spent many cherished summers at the lake with his sisters and brother swimming and sailing. And it was there that his lifelong love of fishing and boating began.
He graduated from Montville High School in 1982 and Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1986. Shortly after, Al started his own contracting business, AlDoor Construction.
Growing up, Al enjoyed snow skiing, snowmobiling and water skiing with his family at their homes in Vermont and Loon Lake, NY. He continued to love boating with his friends and was a huge lover of nature, birds, and all animals. Al inherited his loving nature and compassion for animals from his Mom, Dolores. His beautiful cats were the center of his life at home and they miss him terribly.
Al always had time for his favorite teams, the NY Yankees, the NY Rangers and the NY Giants. As a boy he attended many games with his Dad and his passion continued throughout his life. Later on there was a time you could also find Al rooting for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Alan had so many friends from every part of his life. They loved him for his sweet and generous nature. And they gave him many affectionate nick names. Al Pal, Big Al, Knob, but his favorite name was Uncle Al. He loved all his nieces and nephews dearly. Even his nephews' friends in Boonton Township called him Uncle Al.
He is survived by his mother, Dolores, of Cary, NC; his brother, David (Marianne) of Boonton Township, NJ; his sisters, Pam Smith (Rick) of Cary, NC; and Carolanne Bost (Mike) of Pfafftown, NC; eight nieces and nephews and four grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Alan will be held Thursday, August 8th from 4:00 - 6:00pm at Norman Dean Funeral Home, 16 Righter Ave, Denville.
