Obituary of Kathleen Rose Wittig
It is with such heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of Kathleen Rose Wittig; a long-time Mt. Tabor resident who passed away on June 6th, 2024. Lovingly known as Mrs. Wit, Aunt Kathy, Kwit and Kathy, she was born to Oscar and Mary Horn on June 16th of 1942 in Brooklyn, New York.
After a move, Kathy was raised in Clifton, New Jersey alongside her siblings. She went on to graduate high school and earn a certificate in Infant Care. She used this certificate to lead a career as an infant care technician at Barnert Hospital in Paterson. Eventually, Kathy and her family made the move to Mt. Tabor where she truly found her home. Kathy thrived in the Mt. Tabor community and cherished the relationships she made within it. She made many friends there and especially enjoyed their annual Children’s Day. She was a member of St. Mary’s church in Denville and had a devout faith in the Lord. Kathy also loved spending time with her family. Whether it was at a summer barbecue or one of her kids (and grandkids) sporting events, time spent with family was never time wasted. Kathy was an enthusiastic fan when it came to sports and you could always tell exactly where she was on the bleachers from how loud she would cheer. In her remaining days, she took joy in watching the birds and deer visiting in the backyard.
Kathy was a kind and caring woman with a beautiful soul and a generous heart. She will be deeply missed by so many. We take comfort in knowing that she is at peace, reunited in heaven with those who passed before her; her son, Joseph, her siblings, Robert, Bonnie, Thomas, DeeWitt, Paulette and her parents, Oscar and Mary. It is now that we look to those she leaves behind to carry on her legacy of kindness and compassion. Kathy’s survivors include her children, Dawn Wittig, Helen Wittig, Scott Wittig (Megan), Shaemus Wittig, Teagan Wittig, Brenna Wittig, Kiera Wittig, siblings Stephanie, John and Michael, as well as a wealth of extended family, friends, and neighbors who will think of her fondly.
If you would like to contribute to Kathy’s memory in your own way, please consider making a charitable contribution to St. Mary’s Church of Denville by way of inmemof.org. No formal services for Kathy will take place, but please use this page to leave condolences, share a memory, or light a candle to continue to let Kathy’s light shine! An informal celebration of life is being planned.
