Obituary of Sr. Joanne Riggs
The Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception mourn the loss of their Sister Joanne Riggs, SMIC, who died peacefully on March 26, 2024 at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville, NJ.
Sister Joanne was born in Passaic, New Jersey, on July 19, 1948 to Ira and Alice Riggs. She is survived by her sister Virginia.
Sister Joanne entered the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God in 1999 in West Paterson, NJ. She attended NY University, receiving a M.A. in Nursing, Seton Hall University, earning a B.S. in Nursing, and Paterson State University,
receiving a B.A. in History.
Sister Joanne’s missionary work was as a nurse, and a Coordinator of Faith Initiatives and a Provincial Coordinator for the US Province. She was a visiting nurse in Paterson, and an outreach nurse at St. Brigid Palisades Medical Center. During her final years, Sr. Joanne assisted in the adult formation of catechumenate’s at St. Mary’s Parish in Pompton Lakes, NJ.
Sister Joanne’s funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, April 2 nd , 2024 at 10:15 AM preceded by a wake service prayed at 10AM at St. Bonaventure Parish. Interment will follow in the cemetery of the Missionary Sisters on 44 Rifle Camp Road, Woodland Park, New Jersey.
