Obituary of John Feher
John Feher, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2024 with loving family by his side after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Harkány, Hungary to Janos Fehèr and Maria Faulkenheim, John lived on his small family farm until moving to Budapest, Hungary where he worked as a factory worker until the age of 19. During the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, John escaped Hungary and lived in a refugee camp in Italy, where he joined the US Army. He always expressed his gratitude toward President Eishenhower for the program that allowed him into the US Army. John served for five years in the United States, Korea, and Germany before gaining United States citizenship in 1962.
After the military, John settled down in New Jersey where he met and married his wife Louisa, and was happily married for 61 years. John took great pride in his work as a roofing and siding contractor and owned his own company for 45 years before passing it down to his daughter Lisa and son-in-law Mike Elliott. John was known in the industry as a fair and kind man and he built his business over many years with integrity.
John adored his grandchildren and loved telling them stories of the old country and his army days, as well as taking them to the Seaside Park beach and regular jaunts to the “Sundae Times” for ice cream, and always had chocolates ready at home for any grandchildren visiting. John is survived by his loving wife Louisa, his daughter Lisa Feher Elliott and son-in-law Mike Elliott, his son-in-law Ray Argenio, and his loving grandchildren Monica Argenio, Olivia Argenio, Cristina Argenio, Erica Elliott and Vanessa Elliott. He was predeceased by his daughter Ava Feher Argenio.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 19 from 4 to 8 pm with Funeral Service beginning at 6:30 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services in Denville, NJ. John will be laid to rest privately the following day at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter by way of www.inmemof.org to ensure receipt of your donation. Please leave a loving thought, funny story, or memory of John here to continue to celebrate his life and let his light shine. His family will cherish them forever.
