I regret not knowing this warrior had passed. I visited Picatinny this week after six years. I 'd hope someonr knew how to contact him.
Words cannot adequately express my condolences to the family or share all the exceptional memories I share of Joe.
I joined the PM Mortars team as a support contractor in '98. The mission was to modernize all legacy RVN weapon systems. The first person I hired was Joe Ditrolio. His military background, ability to organize complex information and communicate effectively to the Army decision makers was the foundation for all the mortar systems fielded today.
Mark and Lisa were integral to that effort. Collectively the support team’s initiatives were dependent on his experience and dedication to all warfighters. You all can be proud of his dedication.
Semper fi!

My deepest Condolences with the Ditrolio Family. I served with Joe in HHC, 2/113th INF. I had seen him around and was his medic from time to time, which I got to know him VERY personally with a tic removal at Ft. Dix once. We were roommates in GTMO. That's where I really got to know him and enjoy his sense of humor. He will be missed.

Baseball! I didn't get mention Joe's love of baseball during the Eulogy. This time a year our lunch topic would turn to baseball. Pitchers and catchers started a couple weeks ago. Joe would talk about the Yankee's and whether he thought they had the right setup for a World Series type year. If our friend Dave Kondas was with us all the better as Dave is a walking baseball encyclopedia of statistics on every player you can name. But what I really enjoyed was our conversations about playing baseball in high school. Although we lived hundreds of miles away from each other during high school we had similar baseball experiences. We always talked about that first warm day when the coaches would say something like "okay guys we're taking it outside today." Joe and I would always talk about the wonderful smell of the dirt on those first warm days out on the field. I'll miss those talks with Joe.

My deepest condolences to your family. Joe was a great coworker and will be truly missed. When Joe, Mark Whitby and I were in PM CAS together we used to get together and talk about work and our families. Lots of laughs and stories! Lisa Spinelli

My deepest condolences to Joe's family. Joe was a great person, I met him while working for PMCAS and he would always narrate great stories about his early years in the military and was so very proud of his children and their accomplishments. It was always nice to chat with him in the morning while sipping on some coffee or late in the afternoon for a quick break. He will be missed but i'm sure he will be looking down after his family. May he rest in peace.

Joe was one of my very best friends during our time together as members of Army ROTC at Rutgers. We first met at a pizza and movie event held by the Army ROTC for those of us who signed up for the summer camp basic training at Fort Knox. I could tell that he was equally anxious about signing up and we hit it off immediately.
The ROTC building on College Avenue became our second home and we quickly bonded with others in the program. I fondly recall the crazy Thursday nights which usually started at Patty's, then to the Melody and finally at the Golden Rail where we encouraged one another to make farm animal sounds before gulping down cheap beer. We really lived College life to the fullest. I recall the time we had a Halloween party at Army ROTC and Joe came dressed as a hockey player complete with hockey stick. We all made a point to attend our Thursday night Air Force management class that evening before the party - in costume.
Beyond the fun and laughs, Joe was the kind of close friend who would take time to listen to your problems and offer sound advice. He would support you and show and great example by always doing his best. In the days after the 9/11 attacks I attempted to join back up years after completing my active duty in 1990. I called Joe to ask his opinion about it. He told me, "Steve, stay with your family. Spend more time at home. Love your kids and your wife. You've done your time." I took his advice. There's no telling how things may have ended for me had I chose another direction - and I thank him for it.
My heartfelt condolences go out to the family. We've lost another one of our RU ROTC brothers, but I know for sure that we will meet again. When it's my time, Joe, Pete Galinis and Charlie Ippolito will greet me with "show me your coin!" RIP Cadet.

Thank you for all the memories we shared. From my time as a LT when we were both officers, to the time when we were both sergeants, our bickering and laughter endured over 20 years of friendship. Thanks for being there many times. Sending my prayers to your family. You will be missed. RiP Joe.

Joe was a outstanding member of the Project Manager for Combat Ammunition Systems team and will be sorely missed by everyone that worked with him. His dedication to the warfighter was clear in everything that he did. I am proud to have worked with Joe and will always remember his great service to our nation and the Picatinny Arsenal family.

It’s very hard to believe Joe has left us. I met Joe in Army ROTC at Rutgers. Joe had everything that could be asked of a friend; he was loyal, kind, compassionate, funny. He was also my roommate at IOBC. I remember when we first drove onto Ft Benning his reaction was “even the trees here are dress right dress.” This memory, amongst many others, still bring a smile to me. He truly lived an exemplary life of service for his family, friends, community and nation. He always put others first. My sincerest condolences to his family. We have lost one of the best, and if I can be half the man he was I will consider my life a resounding success.

DiTrolio Family
I was saddened to hear of Joe‘s passing. There are no words that can lessen the pain of losing a loved one. Joe and I were our ROTC Buddies during our college days. We were part of a band of brothers, all with a common goal of joining the military, and serving the country we loved. We found solitude in ROTC. A place we could go and escape the rigors of college life. It was a place where we could relax, joke around, and enjoy each other’s company. We used to get together at one of the campus pubs on Friday after class and play quarters, our version of today’s beer pong. We had so much fun getting stupid and laughing at each other. These are the memories that have lasted a lifetime. I was fortunate to have seen Joe several years back at my retirement party in New Jersey. He was still the same old Joe I knew all those years ago and it was so nice to reminisce about our ROTC days. although Joe is now gone, he will never be forgotten, and will always be a member of the band of Brothers. May you all find peace in your heart, knowing that Joe was a wonderful person, a dear friend, to so many people, and is looking down upon all of you from the skies above.
With Sympathy,
Paul Bezzek

All - I am so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. We both graduated Bloomfield High School - Class of 1981. I'm sure we had some classes together over the years. I did not know he worked at Picatinny. We might have crossed paths over the years without knowing. I've posted the obit on the BHS class of 1981 facebook page. Classmates will be shocked to hear of another passing in our class. Rest in peace Joe.

Sending my condolences to the entire DiTrolio family. I worked with Joe in the same Division and would see him at monthly meetings. His stories were so funny. To this day I think of Joe every time I 'pour boiling water down my sink drains' per his instructions... lol! Rest in peace Joe.

I cannot believe that Joe is gone, we have many memories of him during our years at the Army ROTC at Rutgers University. He was a great American, good friend to all and a patriot. God bless his family, our prayers are with you, we are all better for having known him.

I just learned of Joe’s passing this evening. We have been separated by time and geography over the years, but I loved him as a Soldier and considered him a friend. Some great memories with good times and laughter. Some tough times where we persevered and got through it. We first connected in Woodbridge Armory shortly before he and Carolyn were married. Rest in Eternal Peace, my friend. You are gone too soon. Healing to the family and friends.
