Obituary of Dorothy Laberta Hamilton
Dorothy Dey Hamilton born November 4th, 1933 to the late Clifford Dey and Laberta May (Strouse) Dey in Lambertville, NJ. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many.
Dorothy grew up and graduated from Boonton High School class of 1951. After high school, she was employed by Band Box Cleaners and worked there from June of 1951- July 1957. Dorothy then left Band Box Cleaners and moved on to Aircraft Radio Corp where she worked from 1957-1963. After Aircraft Radio she became a loyal employee to KDI Electronics where she worked for 30 years as a Executive Secretary until retirement. In May of 1956 she got married to Mr. Burr Hamilton and shortly after became a stay-at-home mom to their son Dale.
Not only was Dorothy a working mom but she managed to be very involved in the Denville community. She served as President and Secretary of PRIDE Council in Denville, President and Treasurer of Denville Golden Age, and Secretary of Rockaway Sr. Social Group. Once she moved to Fox Hills in 2013 she became involved in many of their clubs as well. She served as President and Treasurer of her building and Treasurer of the Women’s Club for 8 years.
Dorothy was a very gifted woman with many talents. She learned to crotchet when was in the 3rd grade, later she took up knitting and cross-stitch. Her gifts were always handmade and special items for her friends and relatives. Dorothy loved to bake and was good at it. She would often send her cherished grandchildren boxes for holidays. Cookies were her specialty and she loved to make them for her grandchildren.
Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family in New Jersey and Virginia. She leaves behind her daughter in law Janet Hamilton, her grandchildren Andrew (Elise) Hamilton, Peter Hamilton, Mary Hamilton, and Matthew Hamilton. Her sweet great grandchildren Dominic and Jude of Virginia, her brother Gordan (Nancy) Nicholson of Florida, loving nieces and nephews as well as her companion James Bailey.
She was predeceased by her son Dale Hamilton, her parents Clifford and Laberta, her sister Gladys Mazzei whom she took many vacations with and always looked forward to the next one.
A public visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11th from 2:00PM- 4:00PM with a service at 3:30 PM at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ 07834. A funeral service will take place on Friday, January 12th at 10 am at Denville Community Church, 190 Diamond Spring Road Denville, NJ 07834. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, 77 Deforest Ave, East Hanover, NJ 07936.
