Obituary of Eleanor Elizabeth Kopido
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Elizabeth Kopido, our loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and friend. Eleanor passed away on November 4, 2023 surrounded by her family at the age of 93.
Eleanor was born on March 18, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York. She later moved to Ridgewood, Queens where she attended Grover Cleveland High School. After graduation, she was employed by the Bank of New York where she worked for several years. She met the love of her life, Walter Kopido and they married in 1953. Eleanor then moved to New Jersey where she would raise three children with her husband. She was sadly widowed at the age of 43 and would return to work full time for the Rockaway Borough Board of Education. She eventually retired from General Public Utilities in Parsippany, NJ. She lived in Rockaway,NJ for 62 years.
Eleanor kept busy in her retirement with volunteer work for the Literacy Program of Morris County. She loved making new connections and teaching people how to read. It was truly a passion of hers. She also loved to travel abroad with friends. She loved movies and Broadway shows. But most of all, she adored being with her grandchildren.
Although we are deeply saddened by Eleanors passing, we take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited in Heaven with her husband, Walter Kopido, her parents, William and Charlotte Lemcke, and many of her lifelong friends. Eleanors memory will live on through her devoted children, Walter and Andrea Kopido, Margaret Ferriero (Paul) and Karen Giacomazza (the late, Charles). Her loving grandchildren, Nicholas Ferriero, Kristen Murphey (Michael) and Matthew Ferriero as well as her sweet great-granddaughter Ellie Murphey, who was named after Eleanor.
A graveside service will be held for Eleanor Friday, November 10th, 2023 at 11AM at Saint Cecilia Cemetery, 160 Academy St. Rockaway, NJ. Memorial Donations are being accepted by way of https://inmemof.org/eleanor-kopido to ensure receipt of your donation to either American Cancer Society or Morris County Literacy. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, or share your favorite memory of Eleanor here to continue to celebrate her life and let her light shine. Her family will cherish it forever.
