Obituary of Tyler Richard Scerbo

Please share a memory of Tyler to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Tyler Richard Scerbo,  who passed away on August 16, 2023, in Ithaca, NY at the age of 22.

Tyler was born at Morristown Memorial Hospital and spent his entire life in Wharton, NJ before heading to Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY four years ago.

He was a graduate of Morris Hills High School where he was very active both athletically and artistically.  He played on the football team in 2016 when they earned the state sectional championship.  He was also a member of the track team where he briefly competed in pole vault.  However, his real love and energy was spent on the team as a thrower…shot put, discus and his favorite, javelin. He often joked that he loved to “pick things up and put things down.” In addition to athletics, Tyler played the cello in the string orchestra where he performed in the Winter and Spring concerts and even played at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Always neat and organized (which he blamed on his mother), he took very good care of himself and his room.  He loved to work out and rarely missed his time at the gym, sometimes even going there twice in a day!  Another of his favorite pastimes was his love of cooking, which was taught to him by his father.  He took great delight in making a meal for himself and his family or his friends. He made everyone laugh with his funny impressions of people he knew, perfecting a good number of them!

Tyler was not afraid of doing jobs to earn a little cash.  He worked as a lifeguard at the YMCA in Randolph and as a busboy at the 4 Seasons Restaurant in Wharton.  He enjoyed driving his precious “Jenny the Jeep” to deliver food for Maria’s Pizza, and most recently, he worked at  Mavis Tire and Repair in Rockaway. During past summers and over school breaks, he worked at The Home Depot in Dover.

After high school, Tyler went on to Ithaca College where he majored in Exercise Science with a concentration in strength and conditioning. While there, he continued his love of throwing as a member of the Men’s Track and Field Winter and Spring teams. He not only competed in shot put and javelin, but learned to compete also in hammer and weight throw.

He was predeceased by his Uncle Scott Dennig as well as his Maternal Grandparents Raymond R. and Marianne Dennig.

Tyler is survived by his beloved mother Laura A. and her husband Joseph Raccioppi of Wharton, NJ and beloved father Drew L. Scerbo and his partner Rebecca Christian of Hopatcong, NJ.  He is also survived by his loving brother Kyle A. Scerbo and his partner Marlayna Terantino of Dublin, PA, his stepsister Alexandra and her husband Matthew Johnson, his stepbrother Joseph S. Raccioppi, Jr. and his wife Toni, his aunt and uncle and Godfather Keith and his wife Deborah Dennig, his aunt Cindy Voskian, his Grandparents Richard and Edith Scerbo, and his Godmother Alicia Hitchcock Fisher, as well as his adoring cat Leo. He had many other friends and family members who he loved and cherished, more than can be listed.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 3:00PM to 7:00PM at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue Denville, NJ 07834 www.normandean.com
