Obituary of Beth Shanks

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of Beth Anne Shanks, a Stanhope resident who passed away unexpectedly on August 8th, 2023. Beth was a kind and caring soul, and also tried to be a friend to anybody. She was adopted in March of 1970 by Robert and Kathleen Shanks and was raised alongside her siblings, Richard and Suzanne. During her life, Beth brought two wonderful children into this world and raised them surrounded by love. In 2015 she met her companion, Robert Maffeo, and has spent the last 8 years enjoying her life with him. Beth was a hardworking woman that had a heart of gold and a love for animals. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted companion, and a friend to all.

Though the passing of such a beautiful soul brings us sorrow, we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace, reunited with those who passed before her, including her parents, Robert and Kathleen Shanks, and her sister, Suzanne Marie Groah. Now we look to those she leaves behind to carry on her memory. Beth’s survivors include her children, David Lang of South Burlington, Vermont, her daughter, Kathleen Nagy and her husband, Benjamin, of Hillsville, Virginia, her grandchildren, Aria, Griffin, her brother Richard Shanks, her companion Robert Maffeo, her kitty-kats, Mama, Church, and so many friends, neighbors and coworkers that will remember her fondly.
