Obituary of William Francis Johnson
William “Billy” F. Johnson passed away on July 30, 2023, at the age of 74. He was born on January 22, 1949, in the close-knit community of “Dodd Town” in East Orange, New Jersey, to the late Mary and William G. Johnson.
William’s journey in life was marked by various accomplishments and meaningful relationships. He graduated in the upper quarter class of 1968 from Clifford J. Scott High School in East Orange, New Jersey, where he was an active member of the Glee Club, showcasing his great singing voice and passion for music. He furthered his education, earning an Associate’s degree in Science from Essex County College in 1970 and a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Montclair State University in 1976.
Music held a special place in William’s heart, and he found immense joy in collecting vinyl records, CDs, and music spanning the decades from the 1950s through the 1990s. His extensive collection stood as a testament to his profound knowledge of every song, artist, and record producer. He could recount the finest details of the music he cherished and often shared his musical knowledge with others.
William is survived by his loving sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn Kuntz-Spencer and Ken Spencer of Denville. He also leaves behind his nephews, Stephen Kuntz, and Stephen’s wife, Kristin, along with their son Matthew, all of Randolph. Additionally, William is survived by his niece, Tracy Esposito and her husband, Frank, also of Randolph, along with their three children, Nicholas, Amanda, and Kaitlin. His sister-in-law, Judy Johnson, and his niece, Danielle Johnson, along with nephew, Evan Johnson, Evan’s wife, Jamie, and their son, Jeremy, also mourn his loss.
Among the many blessings in his life, William forged an unbreakable bond with his best friend, Dan Laverty. Together, they created cherished memories that will forever be held dear by the Laverty family.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Family will gather to pay their final respects and share fond memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in William’s name to continue making a positive impact on the world. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Billy here to continue to celebrate his life.
