Obituary of Michael Anthony Wortmann

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Beloved son and brother, Michael Anthony Wortmann, passed away on June 2, 2023 following a hard-fought battle with leukemia, surrounded by his parents and sister. He was 33 years old.

Michael was born in Morristown, New Jersey on July 18, 1989, and resided in Parsippany, New Jersey, for the entirety of his life.

He was proud to attend Seton Hall Preparatory School and thereafter graduated from Loyola University Maryland. Those who knew Michael know of his deep love for sports, and particularly the New York Giants and Atlanta Braves. When he wasn’t watching sports on TV or attending games in person, you could find Michael on the golf course, most often with his father. We hope that when his friends and family step onto the course, they think of and remember Michael and his love of the game. While Michael often drove his family crazy, no one made them laugh harder and he could put a smile on anyone’s face. Michael will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love of his family. Some of his fondest memories include spending holidays and time at the beach with his family, especially his cousins.

Michael was predeceased by his grandparents, his Aunt JeriLynn Kedersha, his Uncle Jimmy Hersh and who he would describe as his favorite member of the family, his dog, Cooper. Although his family is deeply saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing that he is at peace and that they are together again, especially that he is with his dog and talking sports with his grandfather.

Michael is survived by his parents, Robert and Cindy Wortmann, his sister, Michelle Wortmann, his aunts Carol Wortmann, Joanne Casey and her husband Chris, Karen Hersh, Susan Iossa, Louann Finkell and her husband Karl, and Cheryl Addonizio and her husband James. He is also survived his godfather, Chuck Saskowitz and his wife Mary Ellen, his godmother Debbie Palma and her husband Sal, his loving cousins Erik Finkell, Melissa Finkell, John Addonizio, Anthony Addonizio, Jennifer Casey, Christopher Casey, Tommy Casey, Matt Hersh, Brad Hersh, Caroline Hersh, Kaylin Iossa, Lauren Iossa, and Alex Iossa, among many dear friends and extended family members.

Public Visitation will take place on Wednesday June 7, 2023 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ 07834 www.normandean.com.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday June 8, 2023, at 10:30am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 15 Myers Avenue, Denville.
