Obituary of Millie Walsh
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Millie Walsh, who passed away on May 21st, 2023 at St. Clare’s Hospital after a brief illness. Millie’s life was one that touched so many people, and her presence in this world will be sorely missed.
Carmela Walsh, better known as Millie, was born to Andrew and Mary Accomando in Manhattan, New York, in September of 1942. She was raised there alongside her brothers, Andrew and George. She attended Evander Childs High School in the Bronx, and continued on to work a myriad of different jobs. She served as a Veterinary Tech, a Security Guard at Sears, a Teacher’s aide and Audio Visual technician at Morris Knolls High School, but her most important job was being a mom. She met her husband, James Walsh (better known as Jim), in 1963 and the pair were married soon after. They moved to New Jersey in 1972 and began their family. They brought two beautiful children into the world and raised them with the utmost love and care.
In addition to being a devoted mom, Millie was very active in her community. She was a parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in Denville, and even served as a CCD teacher and eucharistic minister. She also was a member of the Indian Lake Women’s Club, acted as a Girl Scout Leader in her daughter’s troop, was the founder of the Sunshine Amateur Theatre Company, which put on shows in Indian Lake and St. Mary’s Church. In her free time, Millie was also part of a Mahjong group where she played the game with friends, and had a passion for nursing plants back to health. When she found the time, one of her favorite activities was to travel with her beloved husband, visiting places like Nashville, Branson, and many national parks over the years.
Though her passing brings us sorrow, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited in heaven with those who passed before her; her husband, Jim Walsh, and her brothers, Andrew and George Accomando. Now we look to those she leaves behind to carry on her memory in their thoughts and actions. Her survivors include her children, Bill Walsh (Stacy), Laura Anderson (Shane), her grandchildren, Anthony Walsh, Joseph Walsh, Veronica Lopardo (Mike), Christian Anderson, Hannah Anderson, her sister-in-law, Evey Accomando, and a wealth of nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers during this trying time.
Public Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 24th, 2023, from 4 to 8 PM at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Mass of Chrisitian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 25th at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 15 Myer’s Ave, Denville, NJ, 07834. Burial will follow at Denville Cemetery in Denville. Memorial Donations are being accepted in Millie's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by way of www.inmemof.org to ensure receipt of your donation. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and leave your favorite memory of Millie here to continue to let her light shine and celebrate the incredible life she bestowed upon us.
