Obituary of Kevin A. Cougle

Please share a memory of Kevin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kevin Arthur Cougle was taken too soon from this earth in a tragic accident on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 in Union, NJ. He had shared 54 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and priceless memories with family and friends.

Born in Denville to the late Joyce and John F. Cougle, Sr., Kevin was raised in Rockaway alongside his siblings Debbie and John, Jr.. He graduated from Morris Hills High School Class of 1987. Kevin was a hard and dedicated worker; he was employed with W.S. Hiler Trucking in Rockaway where he acquired a new “work family” with lasting, meaningful relationships.

Although Kevin never had children of his own, his world revolved around his niece, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He excelled in the “Uncle” job more than any other. See, if you knew Kevin, then you knew he himself was a big kid. He was the ultimate prankster with jokes that were told so well, it wasn’t always obviously in jest. No matter your age, you knew you were in for a good time with Kevin around. He could often be found playing with the children rather than hanging out with the adults at parties. His mischievous smile had you wondering what was next to come; more bubble baths in the driveway resulting in millions of bubbles everywhere? Maybe a wet toilet paper wad coming at you from the second story balcony? He was the King of tomfoolery and shenanigans. Although no one can take that title from him, we will continue the practical jokes in his honor.

Kevin had such a heart of gold that he donated his time, energy, and money to countless activities to make children’s lives better; mostly in the Hibernia section of Rockaway. For example, he hosted a fishing contest in the Hibernia Brook and used his own funds to purchase trout to stock the river with. They don’t make men like Kevin anymore. He broke the mold when he was born, for certain. His guilty pleasures included riding and tinkering with Harley-Davidson motorcycles, taking extra special care of his pick-up truck, and cooking and grilling for loved ones.

Although we are heart-broken, some comfort can be found knowing Kevin is now rejoined with his parents, grandparents, and Uncle Kenneth in Heaven. His legacy of joy and light will continue on in the hearts of his devoted siblings, Deborah Smith (Brian) and John Frank Cougle, Jr.; his cherished niece and nephews, Shawn Smith (Teresa), Courtney Wood (Tyler), and John Frank Cougle III (Gillian); his treasured great-niece and Goddaughter, Baylee; his adored great-nephews and great-niece, Ryan, Ryder, and Emery; his loving aunts, Gail Clodfelter (Bruce) and Lynn Wilson; and many dear extended family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 4th from 4 - 7 pm at Rockaway Assembly of God, 113 E. Main Street, Rockaway, NJ, with prayers and memory sharing beginning at 6:30 pm. Memorial Donations are being accepted in Kevin's memory to Marcella Community Club by way of www.inmemof.org to ensure receipt of your donation. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Kevin here to let his memory live on for generations to come. His family will cherish them forever.
