I’ll never forget the first Christmas I spent at Uncle Tom and Aunt Kathy’s house. I was nervous as this was the first time I spent a holiday with Meg’s family. My nerves quickly went away as Uncle Tom went out of his way to make sure I felt welcome. We had multiple conversations about football, business, and family. He was also great at making sure everyone always had a full glass of whatever they were drinking. I’ll really miss those great times we got to spend together and I feel very honored to have known him. He was truly a great man.

The last time I spoke to Tom, I was able to tell him how I felt about him, that he was one of the finest men I have ever known and I was honored to have him as my brother for over 50 years and loved him very much. Tom was everything that people say, kind, generous with his time and occasional legal expertise when goofballs had minor run ins with Manasquan police or drove too fast on the Parkway. We knew we could count on him and that's a very good thing to know. He was funny, intelligent, always a good conversationalist and so many other things to our family. Kathie & Tom were a perfect match and their devotion to each other knew no bounds. These past few years he had the love of his life beside him helping him navigate the ups and downs and ins and outs of their new normal. Kait and Conor and their beautiful families provided much joy and rarely, if ever, did you hear a complaint. We were all blessed to have known him and will miss him very much until we are all together again.

It’s taken me a few days to figure out the right words. I feel incredibly lucky that I have had Uncle Tom in my life for 39 years, and I feel incredibly sad that I don’t get to have him in my life for longer. He has left an impression on me that will last a lifetime. Uncle Tom was good personified. His and Aunt Kathie’s generosity was unparalleled throughout my life. He was funny, kind, strong, and loving. Uncle Tom always made me, and anyone, feel welcome, cared for, and loved. I’ll miss his stories, and of course his toasts, at all our family events. I hope to carry on his generous and caring spirit throughout my life. I will miss him and love him always.

My heart is just sad, no way around it. Heaven got one of the good ones! Tom was a sweet, kind man, a baby whisperer, confidant, advisor, mentor, guiding light, peacemaker, avid story teller, puzzle solver, loving big brother to my other Uncle's and precious baby brother to my mother, adoring father, doting grandfather and ever faithful partner and best friend to Aunt Kath. To me, he was my Uncle Tommy, a gentle giant, a man I looked up to all of my life.
Certain people in my life have a soundtrack which plays in my head when I see them or I think of them, mostly from what they were playing around me growing up or from songs which personify their personalities. Thank you, Uncle Tom, for putting together one heck of a playlist for me to remember you by, as these were the bands which play in my head when I think of you and now as I cry for you: Simon and Garfunkel, Crosby Stills and Nash, Joni Mitchell, The Beach Boys, The Beatles and it would have to finish with the song Bye Bye Miss American Pie and you shamelessly singing out loud and proud (completely off key) at the Thanksgiving dinner table with the passion of Janice Joplin....but go ahead..."strut Mr. Turkey, that's a fancy way to walk" through life and you did it ever so well and with the grace few could claim.
March 4, 2023...the day the music died.
I miss you already but know you are finally at peace in the Palm of God's Hands. Love you now and forever.
Xo Carrie

And as if to whisper in my ear and say, "Don't forget James Taylor"... "Carolina in My Mind" played on the radio on my car ride home last night...followed by a Kermit the Frog singing "Rainbow Connection" in my head...good thing I keep tissues in the car.

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. I first met Tom around 1987 when I built by Beach House and Sandy Ridge. Tom was happiest at the beach. You could see it in his face, relaxed, and totally content.
Tom was most helpful at the annual meetings of Sandy Ridge, his humor and legal insights really were appreciated by the officers. We had some testy meetings, and I’m glad Tom was there.
Our kids share that Boston College connection, there is always good for a few comments.
If I may help in anyway, especially at the beach with your house, please let me know.
Your friends, Kathleen, and Gordon Kimpel

My first impression of Tom (in 1971) was
What a really nice guy, fun-loving, smart, thoughtful and open-hearted. Over 50 years of friendship later has reinforced all those qualities and added many more. Fatherhood enriched & expanded Tom's persona. His dedication and generosity blossomed as he provided adventure after adventure for his family. From New york City every Thanksgiving Day to the Outer Banks, Ireland and more! He attended countless dance recitals, school performances and athletic events for kids and grandkids, enjoying every minute. He was so proud of his family including his Godson, the naval pilot who tipped a wing to him in a North Carolina flyover. He so loved telling that story! He relished a good story and told many of them with his uniquely contagious humor.
Always good company and a wonderful friend, he will be missed by us all!

What a blessing that Tom's suffering is over, but what a deep loss for Kathie and family. I have always held Tom in the highest respect and admiration for what a beautiful family and life he and Kathie created together. I will remember Tom as very generous, kind, and successful man who took care of everyone, especially family. He was a class act, and one in a million. What a terrific role model for his children and grandkids. Tom and Kathie were a true team, and I know how terribly he will be missed.

Our condolences to Tom’s family. He was one of the good guys. We had the pleasure of knowing him for many years…as a wonderful coach of our son’s Denville soccer team, as a talented lawyer and as a volunteer member of the Denville Zoning Board of Adjustment. We are very sorry to learn this news.
