Obituary of Mabel J. Nitti
Mabel Juliana Nitti passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover. She had shared nearly 94 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and unforgettable memories with family and friends.
Born in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba, Mabel was raised in Havana, Cuba by the late Luis and Elisa Rodriguez. She was one of five children to bless their household. While in Cuba, Mabel earned her Bachelor’s Degree and became a Home Economics Teacher. She married the love of her life, Anthony A. Nitti, on September 17, 1959. Together they settled into Miami, FL where they began a family of their own. In 1967, the happy family of four relocated to Somerville, NJ. Somerville is where Anthony started his own company, Nitti Homes Realty. Mabel worked in the office, allowing the business to run properly, for many years. She then went on to work for Johnson & Johnson through Ortho Pharmaceutical. She was a hard and dedicated worker, a loyal wife, compassionate mother, doting grandmother, and faithful friend.
Mabel was an excellent cook; she was well known for her flan, rice pudding, and especially her Arroz con Pollo aka chicken and rice. She excelled when it came to feeding and taking care of others. She let you know that you were loved and cared for by making sure you were fed, clothed, and clean. A quintessential woman, mother, grandmother, and friend, you were truly blessed to have had Mabel in your life. A talented seamstress, for her grandchildren, she would make them Halloween costumes and hem and alter everyday clothes. Of course, she liked to have fun, too! She loved playing the lottery, bingo, Left Center Right, and the slots at casinos. She took many trips to Atlantic City and even better, Vegas!
Above all, Mabel was a classy woman who always put family first. We will forever treasure the amazing memories she has left us with. Although we are deeply saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her beloved husband, Anthony, her parents, and siblings.
She leaves only joyful memories to her loving children, Anthony D. Nitti and his wife Penni and Elisa Alexander and her husband Howard; her cherished grandchildren, Christina Martin and her husband Branden, Rebecca Alexander, Theresa Alexander and her husband Taylor, and Eva Nicole Alexander; her caring sister, Miriam; and many dear nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Public Visitation will take place on Friday, January 6th from 4 – 7 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, January 7th at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Myers Avenue, Denville.
