Obituary of Michael J. MacQuesten
Michael J. MacQuesten (Mike) passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Newton Medical Center. He had shared 68 years of unforgettable memories, infectious laughter, and pure selflessness with family and friends.
Mike was born in Morristown to the late Reginald C. MacQuesten, Jr. and Frances (MacQuesten) Johnson. He graduated from Morris Hills High School, Class of 1972. As a youngster growing up in Rockaway Borough, he loved to play baseball & football. After high school, he enjoyed shooting pool and playing softball. Mike had a very successful career as a Paving Foreman with Construction & General Laborers’ Local 172 & Local 472. If you have taken a drive in NJ, Mike probably made that road a little smoother during his 47 years of service before retiring in 2018. He loved the beach in Sea Isle City and was a dedicated NY Giants fan, enjoyed NASCAR and spent many days feeding the deer and birds that visited often in his yard. He had the best sense of humor, which could be seen on his vast t-shirt collection.
Mike married his best friend and soulmate Jayne Mills, in 1978. He was truly the salt of the earth; he would do anything for anyone, and we are better people for having him in our lives. He will be severely missed and forever treasured. We take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his Mom Fran, Father Reggie, Brothers Bill and David, Father in law Dan Mills, Unkie Bill and Uncle Frank.
He leaves only joyful memories to his beloved sandbox sweetheart Jayne; their doting fur-babies Gabby and Marquee; his loving siblings Reggie MacQuesten and his wife Jeanette, Kellie Carroll and her husband Travis, Rita Reedy and her husband Tom, Chris Johnson and his wife Jeri, and Peter Johnson and his wife Trudy; his caring siblings-in-law, Donna MacQuesten, Linda Johnson, and Larry Mills and his wife Desiree; his mother in law Betty Mills, his loving Godmother Virginia Newman; his loving Godson William MacQuesten; caring cousins Lynda and Jimmy; and many dear nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Donations can be made in Mike’s Memory to the following animal rescues: BARK or Lost Ball Canine Rescue by way of www.inmemof.org to ensure receipt of your donation.
Public Visitation will be held on Friday, August 19th from 4 – 8 pm with Funeral Service beginning at 7:30 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Burial will be private.
