Obituary of Walter Edward Ennis
Walter Edward Ennis passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He had shared many years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and priceless memories with family and friends.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York to the late Walter and Margaret Ennis, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from St. Francis College, in Brooklyn. Walter proudly served our country in the United States Army. He married his soulmate and best friend, Carmelita Martin, on July 20, 1963. They began a family of their own in Brooklyn before finding their forever home in Rockaway Township in 1976. Walter always worked hard to support his family. He retired in 1994 after many years of service as a Compliance Officer for Prudential Securities in NYC.
To say that Walter was an avid reader would be an understatement. If he didn’t have a book in his hands, you could find him completing crossword, and a sudoku puzzles or watching the Notre Dame football games. His happy place was the beach. Right now, we can picture him sitting at the seashore, with his feet in the sand and a book in his hands, getting the perfect tan. Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his son, Walter, Jr. who passed in 2003.
He leaves only joyful memories to his beloved wife of 59 years, Carmelita; his loving sons, John Ennis and his wife Donna and Tom Ennis and his wife Krista; his cherished grandchildren, Joseph Ennis and his wife Samantha, Brooke Ennis and her fiancé Dante Focarelli, Michael, Katherine, and Daniel Ennis; his treasured great-granddaughter, McKenna Ennis; his caring brother, John Ennis and his wife Margaret; and many more extended family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 1st at 11 am at St. Cecilia Church, 90 Church Street, Rockaway. Family and friends are welcome to visit with the family prior to Mass from 9 – 10 am at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Memorial Donations are being accepted to the Self-Directed Advocacy Network of Maryland, 3527 Chick Lane, Knoxville, MD 21758, or by clicking here. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Walter here to continue to celebrate the incredible life he bestowed upon us.
