Overton J. Young, Jr. passed peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.  He shared 89 years of love, laughter and downright honesty with his family and friends.  A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 28th at 12 noon at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Avenue Denville.  Interment to follow at the Rockaway Presbyterian Church Cemetery.  Friends and relatives may visit beginning at 10 o’clock in the morning at the funeral home.

Overton was born in October of 1932 and was one of four sons to bless the family.  Growing up in Denville, Jack and his brothers enjoyed playing in the fields and farms and doing what kids do.  As a young teen he was at a carnival with friends and that’s where his life changed forever.  He met Dorothea Knollhufff and the rest was history.  Jack was smitten.  After graduating Boonton High, they married and settled into their own home in Denville. Soon their “young” family started growing.  First one, then two and soon – six children!  Dorothea stayed home tending to her family and providing a loving home and everything they needed.  She was an exceptional homemaker and a devoted wife.  Jack worked with Dixon Oil Co. for over many decades.  He worked hard to provide a good life for his family.  Together they made a beautiful life.

Jack was an exceptional gardener and his flowers were gorgeous.  He could always be found in his yard perfecting his gardens.  He was the original “Mr. Fix It” always tinkering with a project in the house or yard.  His garages, some might say, hold many treasures. He was a collector and could find a use for just about anything.  He enjoyed music.  Big Band, Sinatra and Bennett to name a few and Jack never missed the Johnny Carson show.  He would settle into his rocker each evening to catch his evening show.

Jack was loving and kind, stubborn and deliberate.  He would tell you what he thought whether you “want to hear it or not”.  Above everything, Overton loved his family.  He was a proud Dad, a doting Grandpa and an adorable Great Grandpa.  He loved nothing more than having his crew beside him.

Although we are saddened by his passing, we rejoice in a life well lived and we are certain Dorothea was there to greet him for his long-awaited home coming.

He leaves his children Robert (Carolyn) Brian (Karen) Overton III “Jay” (Nancy), David, Kathy Bessler and Karin Nestor; his grandchildren Jesse Bessler (Andrea), Brittany Mosheim (Jason), Gretchen Young, Ryan Young, Megan Young, Mickey Nestor, Jackson Nestor, his  great grandchildren Maya & Eric Bessler; his brothers Ronald and Gary Young and many more loving relatives, neighbors and friends. His dear Dorothea, brother James, daughter in law Robin and son in law Donald Bessler passed previously.

“The way we danced and hummed our favorite song…the things we did last summer…I'll remember all winter long.”
