Obituary of Mary Agnes Andes

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Agnes Andes (Murray) was surrounded by family and friends when she passed away on May 6, 2022, at the age of 90.  Predeceased by her beloved husband Richard C. Andes in 1976, the two are now reunited in their eternal love.

Mary was born in Union City, then moved to Lyndhurst with her husband and children, where she spent 50 years before moving to Denville, NJ in 2015.

Mary’s time in Denville was filled with community through the Denville Senior Citizens Group and Prayer Shawl Ministry of St. Mary’s Church, as well as through the dear friends she made.  She looked forward to summers at the Deer Lake Club in Boonton Township, where she would be surrounded by family, watch generations of grandkids learn to swim, and never hesitate to treat for ice cream.

Family was the pride and joy of Mary.  She cared for her children in every way, just one of which was being the Den Mother for her sons throughout Boy Scouts.  In trying times, she went back to work as a bookkeeper at Meehan Tooker in East Rutherford.  Upon retiring in 1995, Mary threw herself into the lives of her grandchildren.  She was both the scheduled and last minute babysitter, holiday hostess, and always ready with an unusual snack on vacations.

Mary was “Mom” to her loving children, Thomas and wife Sharon Andes, Richard and wife Melissa Andes, Maureen and husband William McMillan, Patrick Andes, and Kathleen and husband Harry Stylianou.  To many she was introduced as “Nana”, but beloved as such no more than to Jacqueline, Thomas and Elizabeth, Katherine and Christopher, Richard, Joseph and Shannon, Lauren, Richard and Allison, Kathryn, Bridget, GraceAnn, Stephen, and Alexandra and Andrew.  Her love went a generation further, to her great grandchildren, Abigail, Jason, Theodore, Louis, Eleanor, Jackson, Logan, Mackenzie, and Connor.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, from 3:00PM to 8:00PM at Norman Dean Home for Services at 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ 07834 www.normandean.com.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at 10:00AM at St. Mary’s Church at 15 Myers Avenue Denville, NJ 07834.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
