Obituary of Anthony Gallello
Anthony Gallello passed away peacefully at his home in Rockaway Township, NJ on March 13, 2022. Anthony was born at home on 5th Street in Newark, NJ on September 23, 1937 to his parents Lorenzo and Josephine. He raised his three children in Rockaway Boro before moving to the Township 21 years ago. Anthony was preceded in death by his loving sister Mary and stepmother Grace.
Anthony was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and Navy. He served in the Army from 1956 to 1958, and then enlisted in the Navy and served during the Vietnam War from 1962-1967.
He worked for many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at East Orange VA, Dover General, and Tampa General hospitals. He enjoyed being a U.S. Postal Mail Carrier and Newark City Bus Driver.
Anthony was a member of the Knights of Columbus (Lafayette Chapter), Disabled American Veterans, Dover Moose Lodge and American Legion Post 344 (Rockaway).
He had many friends and interests. He loved history, books, classic movies, fishing, his Lionel Trains, and was a fan of the NY Mets and Jets. Anthony coached his daughters’ softball teams for several years in Rockaway.
Above all, Anthony loved his family. He is survived by his loving children Lisa Johnsen (Andrea Williams) of Midlothian, VA, Christine Murray (Raymond) of Ocracoke, NC and Larry Gallello of Ogdensburg, NJ. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kacie, Emily, Amanda and Abigail, and his grand-pup Midnight.
