Obituary of Evelyn J. Caloz

Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Evelyn Jane Caloz passed peacefully on March 8, 2022.  She shared 94 years of love with her family.  Private arrangements were held under the direction of the Norman Dean Funeral Home.  Donations in her memory may be made to the good work of the NJ Audubon Society.  Please share your memories here.  Her family will cherish them.

Born in Iowa, Evelyn was one of six children to bless her parents.  At a young age, her mother packed up the kids and moved closer to family after the passing of her father.  She grew up enjoying her cousins and extended family.  While in school in Dumont, NJ she met Jack Caloz.  They were neighbors as well and married after graduation.  The settled in Denville shortly after and started a family of their own.  She worked hard along with Jack to give her family a beautiful life and comfortable home.  She stayed active with her children’s activities from little league to girl scouts.  She loved being outdoors and in nature.  She was an avid birder and was a lifetime member of the Audubon Society.   She could often be found outside watching birds for hours.

She loved to read and learn and always had a pile of books she was in the midst of.  She loved the beach and every summer she was fortunate to bring her family to the NJ Shore for two weeks.  She wasn’t much for the water, but give her a comfortable chair and good book and she could sit happily for hours on end.

Above all, Evelyn loved her family. The sun rose and set on the kids; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Although we are saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace and watching her family from above with a bird’s eye view.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Jack and her adored son George; she leaves beautiful memories to her children Jack (Sheri), Judi Smith (Jeff) and Thomas; her granddaughters Beverly Lepre (Frank), Laura Chapman (Russell) and Samantha Giglio (Mike); her great grandchildren Salvatore and Jaclyn, Willman and James and Savannah and Elaina; and many more dear relatives and friends.
