Obituary of Winifred Castrucci
Winifred Hill Castrucci passed peacefully at her daughter’s home on March 6, 2022. She shared 98 years of love and faith with her family. Private arrangements were held under the direction of the funeral home. Wynn will be buried with her family in Denville Cemetery in the Spring. Donations in her memory may be made to the good work of Hope Hospice.
Wynn was born on December 27, 1923 to the late –Frank Leatherdale and Bertha Leatherdale (nee) Fenner. She was one of 4 children to bless the family. After her schooling, she met William Hill.
On January 28, 1945 Wynn was one of the first English war brides to travel to America along with wounded soldiers on the Mauretania, zig zagging across the Atlantic to avoid the German’s from bombing them.
She was soon the doting Mom to three little ones. She worked hard to give the kids a good life. She was always a part of their activities and Wynn’s home was always open to all of the kid’s friends. She was kind and loving and her smile all inviting.
She enjoyed knitting and being a home maker. She was excellent at knitting and made beautiful Afghans and handmade gifts through the years. If you were lucky enough to receive one of Wynn’s beautiful Afghans, you knew you were loved. She was a delight and lit up every room she entered. Above all, Winifred loved her family. When she was crowned “Grandma”, she beemed with joy. This was certainly her greatest title as the sun rose and set on the kids.
In later years she was blessed to meet Manlio Castrucci and the rest was history. They fell in love and spent 29 years enjoying each other. They loved to travel and spend time with the family. They were a great fit and loved each other dearly.
Predeceased by her beloved daughter Kathleen Hill and her adoring husbands William Hill and Manlio Castrucci; she leaves joyful memories to her children Barry Hill and Kimberly Frasciello (John); her step daughters Paula Castrucci (James) and Andrea Commarata. Her adored grandchildren Jeffrey Grego, Jessica Clay, Megan Clay, Benjamin Atherholt and Amy Salvato; her adorable great grandchildren Shayden, Isabella, Maya and Lena; her loyal pups Abigail and Gunner and many more loving relatives and friends.
