Obituary of Irma Kay Lafko

Irma Kay (Bergland) Lafko passed away at VNA Hospice on January 29, 2022, at

the age of 88.

Born in Brooklyn, NY before moving to the Marcella section of Rockaway Township, NJ in 1970. She had lived in Vermont where her family ran a Bed and Breakfast before returning home to Marcella.

Irma worked as the Secretary to the Superintendent at the Board of Education for Rockaway township for 31 years. She was a long-time member and council member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rockaway Township, as well as the Sons of Norway where she was also a council member, and the Nor-Bu Lodge where she was a folk dancer and council member along with other roles.  When not volunteering her time Irma could be found in her garden, taking care of her cats, reading a good book, or on a cruise ship. Most of all she loved to be with her children and grandchildren.

Irma is survived by her loving children Vencka and her husband Louis Peterson of Santa-Fe, NM, Randi and her husband Greg Dunnuck of Waynesville, NC, Kristofer Lafko and his wife Patricia Budka of Washington, D.C. and Eric “Shadow” Lafko of Rockaway Twp., NJ.  She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Kristian Olsen, his wife KC and Hanna Lafko as well as her great grandson Lukas Olsen.

Visitation will be held on Thursday February 3, 2022, from 3:00PM to 7:00PM at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Avenue Denville, NJ 07834.

Funeral services will begin on Friday February 4, at 8:30AM at the funeral home and then going to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 508 Green Pond Road Rockaway, NJ 07866 for a 10:00AM Funeral Service.  Interment will follow at Marcella Union Cemetery 28 Timberbrook Road Rockaway, NJ 07866.
