Obituary of Carolyn A. Milligan

Please share a memory of Carolyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Carolyn A. Milligan passed away peacefully with her loving daughters by her side on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, FL. She had shared 86 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and priceless memories with family and friends.

Born in Cherry Falls, WV to the late Daniel and Bessie Sites, she was one of three children to bless their household. Carolyn was raised on a farm and learned the true meaning of hard work as a little girl. She graduated from Webster County High School class of 1953 and moved to Washington, D.C. where she met her first husband, John “Jack” Henry Ackerman. They were married in 1955 and relocated to Denville, NJ where they settled down to raise their four daughters. Unfortunately, Jack passed away in 1975 and Carolyn went on to raise her girls as a single Mom. She was the greatest Mom, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother anyone could ever ask for. Fortunately, Carolyn met another amazing man to call her own; she married Howard Milligan in 1978. Together they shared their time between NJ and FL and in later years moved to Port St. Lucie, FL where she has remained ever since.

Carolyn had many hobbies and interests. First and foremost, her family was her first priority. Carolyn was the glue that held our family together. She had a passion for traveling and gardening. She was also a talented musician; she played the organ and guitar, to name a few. She loved music. Although we are deeply saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing we have the greatest Guardian Angel watching out for us from above.

She leaves only joyful memories to her adored daughters, Sherri (Steve) Mazzola, Debbie Dowd, Cindy Ellman, and Lorie Furth; her cherished step-children, Scott (Wendy) Milligan, Robin (Loren) Fisher, and Penny (Keith Bierwisch) Milligan; her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her caring siblings, Carolyn (the late John) Sites and Charles (the late Sandy) Sites; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, February 1st at 11 am at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Please arrive to the funeral home no later than 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Denville Cemetery in Denville. Memorial Donations are being accepted in her memory to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997-5688. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Carolyn here to continue to celebrate the incredible life she endowed to us.
