I have known Maureen since I moved my horse Julius to Ellistan in the 70's. She was just living there then sharing a cottage with Judy Davis and working for the Hartford. We had many dinners together and when Julius died she found me my next horse, Remy. She didn't want to sell him to me in case it didn't work out and hurt our friendship. She even gave me an oil painting of him which her cousin did and it still hangs in a place of honor in my home. She was always there for her friends and animals. We were planning on a lunch together when I got the call. She will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

I think it has been 7 years that I have gone almost monthly to work on horse's at White Oaks Farm. Maureen somehow found me and invited me to come work (I'm an equine massage therapist) on some of the horses under her care. Over the years we shared a lot of laughs, lots of stories of polo and racing, and a lot of serious conversations about everything in life. I remember having a conversation with her during an unusually difficult time in my life. She said 3 words that completely changed my view of the situation. She was a wise woman and will be sorely missed. I was in awe of her impressive horse knowledge and she made sure that every horse in her care was studied and analyzed. May she rest in peace.

To Mrs. Boyce and all who loved Maureen. I met Maureen when I was 13 years old. She arrived at my house with a friend and they told me they were taking me for a ride on the horse my family just purchased for me. From that day forward, Maureen and I were riding buddies. Every day she arrived at my door to go for a ride. We did some pretty stupid things over the years. Once we decided to find out who was the better rider by removing the bridles and steering our horses with our legs. Worked great until mine went under a tree and I go beaned and ended up on the ground. Once we took off galloping through a field to catch a friend of ours and my horse stepped in a gopher hole and I imprinted the grass on my face and almost broke my nose.. Maureen's horse Hammie was a real character. Once he took off with Maureen and ran for a couple of miles before dumping Maureen on a curve and then heading for the barn. Maureen was not happy to see him when she got home. My horse hated riding in the trailer and Maureen had no trailer. On more than one occasion she rode to a show and I took my horse in our trailer. After the show, Hammie would end up riding home in the trailer and I would have to ride. I tried to be happy for her but it was hard after a long tiring day to have to ride home
Maureen and I were friends for almost 60 years. I once went camping with her family and fell in love with all of them. I was with Maureen when she came home from college to help with her dying father and I shared her grief when he passed. I have visited Mrs. Boyce several times and always found her a delight. Maureen was the only one of my friends to attend my graduation from college. I will post that picture when I get home.. I visited her on the different horse farms she worked and marveled at her ability to handle some pretty high strung horses.
I will miss her more than you can ever know. We have talked at leased once every 2-3 months for all these years. She was my best friend in high school and I missed her terribly when she went away to college. I missed my last chance to talk to her when she changed phones because hers was hacked. I tried to reach her but did not see that she answered my question about her phone, until today. If only I had checked in the correct place I would have had one last chance to talk to her.. Goodbye dear friend. You will always be in my heart.

Maureen was a wonderful person, who had great stories about her Mom and family.
She was the best horse woman I ever met. She loved every animal she took care of as if it were her own.
She will be missed, but NEVER forgotten.
