Obituary of Elsa Horvath
All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my Angel Mother…
Elsa Horvath passed peacefully on November 12, 2021. She shared 93 years of love and faith with her family. Private services were held under the direction of the Norman Dean funeral home. Donations in her memory may be made to Longwood Gardens, 1001 Longwood Road, Kennett Square, Pa 19348, a place that Elsa treasured. Please share your memories here. Her family will cherish them.
Born in Hungary to the late Joseph and Juliana (nee Nagy) Toth, Elsa was one of six children. After her schooling she met Charles Horvath and the rest was history. They fell in love and married. Times were difficult though and with a young family, Elsa and Charles made the brave decision to flee to France after the 1956 uprising. With the clothes on their backs and three little ones, they settled in Forbach, France. Seven years later, with the sponsorship of dear friends the Bedoes, they migrated to the United States. Elsa always did everything she could for the betterment of her family and these two moves were the giant leaps. Along with Charles they worked hard to provide a beautiful life. They settled in Lake Hiawatha where they lived until 2017.
Elsa enjoyed gardening and sharing her bounty of flowers and vegetables with family and neighbors. She was a wonderful cook and loved having her family surround her table together, especially for the holidays. She was crafty and artistic and made beautiful handmade gifts through crocheting, knitting and needle point. Her greatest joys though, came from her family. She was the proud and doting “Nagymama” to six grandchildren and adoring Great “Nagymama” to eight little ones. Although we are saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace and watching over her family with love. In this season of Thanksgiving, we certainly are grateful for her many years of love, strength and guidance shown to all.
Predeceased by her husband Charles (1996) and her beloved daughter Erika Confair (1991); she leaves beautiful memories to her children Elsa Bender (Bruce), Charles Horvath (Alexandra), and Liliane Ambrus (Arpad); her adored grandchildren Samantha Bender, Zachary Bender, Noelle Bitz (Adam), Jacklyn Ambrus, Michelle Horvath and Kristine Confair; her great grandchildren Madelyn, Grace, Ryan, Nathan, Xavier, Dante, Felix & Xavier as well as many more dear relatives here and in Hungary.
