Obituary of Robert F. Zsiray

Robert “Bob” Francis Zsiray went home to be with our Lord on Monday, March 8, 2021 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover. He had shared 92 years of unconditional love, devotion, and amazing memories with family and friends.

Born and raised in Caldwell to the late Louis and Rose Zsiray, he was one of eight children to bless their household. He graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Caldwell before honorably serving our country in the United States Army Corps of Engineers in the Korean War. After returning home, he married his sweetheart, Joan (McLaughlin) and the rest is history. They began their life together in Caldwell where they had their first child and Bob was a dedicated member of the Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department for many years. In 1959, Joan and Bob found their forever home in Rockaway Borough, where they continued to grow their family. He retired from Nissan USA in 1991 as the Parts Manager. A devout member of the church, he served actively for over 25 years at both Rockaway Methodist Church and then Denville Community Church. He was a member of the Denville VFW Post # 2519, loved to play golf, and took great joy in filling the bird feeders at his home and watching them come to eat. Above anything else, his family was his pride and joy. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his parents, and seven siblings. We are comforted knowing he is safe in Heaven and we have the greatest Guardian Angel shining down, watching out for us from above.

He leaves a lifetime of joyful memories to his beloved wife of 64 years, Joan; his adored daughters, Linda Zsiray and Roxanne Shanks; his cherished grandson, Bryant (Ashton) Shanks; numerous nieces and nephews; and many more extended family and friends.

Memorial Service will be held at a later date in the Spring at Restland Memorial Park, 77 Deforest Avenue, East Hanover. In his memory, memorial donations are being accepted to Denville Community Church, 190 Diamond Spring Road, Denville, NJ 07834.
