Mary Bowers

Obituary of Mary Lou Bowers

Mary Louise “Mary Lou” Bowers passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville. She had shared 74 years of unconditional love, laughter, and amazing memories with family and friends.

Born and raised in Staten Island to the late Lloyd and Martha Swartz, she was one of three daughters to bless the Swartz household. Shortly after graduating High School, Mary Lou married her soulmate and best friend, Roger Bowers, on February 5, 1966. They began their family in Staten Island before relocating to the Lake Mohawk section of Sparta, which was a magical place for the kids to grow up. They made many unforgettable memories on the lake relaxing, partying, swimming and countless boat rides. Mary Lou worked for JC Penney for many years, also she worked alongside the family business at Sportsmen's Cove. Her true calling was to be a Mom and Grandma. Above anything else, she loved doting on her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, especially on cruises with her husband, and trips to the casino. She enjoyed her "perch" on the couch where she would watch countless episodes of TV day and night, alternating computer fun. Her go-to on TV was the Hallmark Channel and Last Man Standing, although she would never turn down an old Cowboy movie.

Although we are deeply saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her beloved husband, Roger, and we now have two guardian Angel’s watching out for us from above.

She leaves a lifetime of happy memories to her adored children, Donna McAlister and her husband Norman, Roger Bowers, Jr., Kerri Albertson and her husband Donald, and Alan Bowers and his wife Tracy; her cherished grandchildren, Brianna, Connor, Sean, Brendan, Kaitlyn, Kayla, Sydney, Zachary, and Summer; her treasured great-grandson, Hunter; her loving sisters, Shirley Cole and her husband John and Susan Swartz; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
