We are so sorry to hear about Marty's passing. He ran the diving meets, and was so encouraging when I began competitive diving at ILCC. Marty devoted so much time to Indian Lake, the Diving and Swim Teams and the Board of Trustees. Our condolences to the entire family.

Condolences to the whole family. Martin was a boon to Indian Lake. There were not many like him, who dedicated so much time and effort to assuring things went well and properly at the Lake. I remember him as one of our swimming coaches, and a driving force at the Lake. I am glad to hear he had a long, and happy life.

We would like to express our condolences to the Henes family on the passing of Marty.
As a youngster growing up in Indian Lake in the late 50's and 60's, I recall the great times we had participating on the swimming team and later came to realize the time and effort Marty devoted to the program. As an adult, married and moving back into the Lake, I had the opportunity to work with Marty on the board of trustees. Again, I saw his tireless and dedicated service to Indian Lake. He was our conscience and made sure, if we were doing some project, it was well planned out .
Marty and my Mom grew up together in Mount Tabor and went all through school together. In the later years of their lives, they reconnected at Franciscan Oaks senior living facility. They would often dine together, and my Mom always remarked that Marty would get up and pull out her chair as she came in.
Always the gentleman.
He will be missed.

Sherry and I wish to express our deepest sympathy to Cookie, Buster, Kim and the rest of our family members on the passing of Uncle Martin. Uncle Martin, Uncle Henry and my Dad, Jack, as well as Grandma Muddy and Nana were one of a kind, shaped by the circumstances of their times, including the Great Depression and World War II. Uncle Mart, may you rest in Heavenly Peace, along with Aunt Loraine, the "Love of Your Life".
With Deepest Sympathy,
Bob and Sherry

My condolences to the whole family - especially "Cookie" and "Buster" who I knew throughout high school and to Kimberly a great science student at St. Mary's. I was so pleased to learn that I had moved in across the street from the Henes' at Indian Lake. I knew Mr. Henes from many swim meets and Hub Lakes events when I grew up in Rock Ridge Lake.

Remembering Uncle Mart
John (Lad) Henes
November 1, 2020
Coaching swimming, playing hockey, standing in back of me squeezing my shoulders with his strong hands, fixing cars or anything else that needed fixing especially with his two older brothers, Henry & Jack, where even though he was the youngest he almost always took the lead. He was the one who saw the solution first and was ready to act. Sometimes he was gently corrected by his oldest brother but not often.
I remember when he skated over my nose, luckily just a scratch, while we were playing hockey in front of his Indian Lake home. Uncle Mart, Buz and I would go out and challenge anyone who was willing to play with us.
Sometimes Uncle Mart let me use his nice new car for special dates. It always took me 3-4 hours to clean it to his satisfaction before I returned it. He would inspect it.
I remember he and my Dad figuring out how to turn Aunt Rainie’s car around so it would be parallel to the sides of the garage instead of perpendicular after she spun the car around on ice inside the garage without hitting the walls.
He was very active with the Rainbow Lakes post 451 American Legion. One of my most treasured memories was when he took me and my trumpet to a number of cemeteries on many Memorial Days so the honor guard could salute the veterans and I could play taps.
