Obituary of Hilda M. Vanderhoof

Please share a memory of Hilda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Hilda M. Vanderhoof passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Arden Courts in Whippany. She had shared 92 years of love, laughter, and amazing memories with family and friends.

Born in Newark and raised in Parsippany to the late John & Alice Stocks, she was the only child to bless their household. Hilda graduated from Mountain Lakes High School, Class of 1946. She married the love of her life, Charles E. Vanderhoof, Jr., on March 23, 1947 and the rest is history. Together they settled in Denville to begin a family of their own. After five years in Pennsylvania, they relocated to their forever home in Morris Plains in 1965. Together they raised three children and their home remained headquarters for all major events, holidays, or just a summer afternoon. Their epic Christmas celebration every year will forever live on in our memories. It was the true definition of “home”.

Hilda was a versatile woman who excelled at everything she did. She found her niche as a bookkeeper, most recently for Advanced Separation Technologies in Whippany. Her exceptional sewing skills led to a loyal fan base of customers via word-of-mouth. Her vast inventory of fabric meant every pillow or quilt would have the perfect color combination. Hilda was always on the go, tending to her numerous flower gardens or her ever-expanding Christmas village. She was also compassionate and strong, always by Charlie’s side when health issues arose. Although we are deeply saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved husband.

She leaves only joyful memories to her adored children, Susan (Greg) Giordano, Anne (Richard) Turnamian, and Charles E. Vanderhoof III; her cherished granddaughters Susan Turnamian (pre-deceased), Anne (Jason) Correia; and her treasured great-granddaughter, Jane Correia.

Public Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27th from 2 - 5 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 28th at 11 am at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rockaway Presbyterian Cemetery, 35 Church Street, Rockaway, NJ 07866. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Hilda here to continue to celebrate the amazing life she endowed to us.
