Obituary of Phillip A. Leiner

Please share a memory of Phillip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Phillip A. Leiner passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at Care One at Morris in Parsippany. He had shared 85 years of love, laughter, and amazing memories with family and friends.

Born in Englewood, Phillip was raised in Ridgefield to the late Albert and Blanch Leiner, he was one of two children to bless the Leiner household. He graduated from Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood before proudly serving our country in the United States Army where he was a member of the Band and played the upright bass, or double bass. His entire life, Phillip was a dedicated and skilled Musician. He was raised by talented Musicians and continued the trait for his family singing and playing the bass and piano while his sister, mother, and father strummed on their guitar, fiddle, banjo, violin, and more! He knew he met the love of his life when he met Florence Pharaoh and they had the time of their lives just dancing the night away. They married in 1987 and shared many years enjoying one another’s company until she passed in 2015.

Phillip was always the life of the party; he truly shined when hosting BBQ’s and shindigs at his house with friends and family. He loved tinkering in his workshop, gardening, and taking long walks, especially around Parks Lake in Rockaway. Phillip was a doting husband, attentive father, compassionate grandfather, and trustworthy friend. Although we are saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Florence.

He leaves only joyful memories to his loving children, Jean (John) Byrne, Julie (Joseph) Arteaga, and Alan Leiner; his cherished grandchildren, Ryan and Lauryn Byrne, Jake Arteaga, and Nina Trasente; his caring nephew, Glen (Lisa) Lettieri; and many more extended family and friends.

All Services will be private. Memorial Donations are being accepted to the Dementia Society of America by way of www.inmemof.org. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Phillip here to continue to celebrate the life he shared with us.
