Obituary of Dorothy Williams

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dorothy J. Williams passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Paragon Village Assisted Living in Hackettstown. She had shared 89 years of unconditional love, laughter, and amazing memories with family and friends.

Born in Dover to the late Percival and Elizabeth Cook, she was one of 6 children to bless the Cook household. A hard and dedicated worker, Dorothy started working at an early age to help support her family while they were all living in Hibernia. While on the job at Reaction Motors in Rockaway, she met the love of her life, Leland E. Williams. They were married on December 27th in 1950 and the rest is history. As a proud military wife, wherever Leland was needed to serve our country, she followed. They had spent some time in Mississippi, had their first child in Texas, and eventually settled down in Denville in 1954, when Leland was honorably discharged. She remained there for 62 years before relocating to Hackettstown where she has resided ever since. Dorothy spent many years as a Waitress at Paul’s Diner and Neil’s New Yorker until she found her niche in the Mennen Company as a Line Supervisor before retiring in the 80’s.

Dorothy was an exceptional wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She always enjoyed taking her family vacations to Wildwood in the summers as this was something that she was able to do as both a mother and grandmother. She was an amazing host at family gatherings and social events where you could always expect a delicious home-cooked meal. Some of her greatest passions in life included horses, line dancing, sudoku, reading, and skiing. She was an active member of the Craigmeur Ski Club in Rockaway. Dorothy never let anyone go hungry in her presence and this included the wildlife outside. Above anything else, her family was her first priority in her life. Although we are deeply saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her beloved husband, Leland, her parents, her step-father, John Capitulik, and her siblings, Betty Nedo and Anna Struble.

She leaves only joyful memories to her loving children, David (Debbie) Williams, JoAnn (John) Kentos, Edward (MaryAnn) Williams, Robin (Glen) Canfield, Lisa (James) Reinhart; her cherished grandchildren, Jessica (Tim) Wall, Michael (Kimberly) Williams, Katie (Robert) Sousa, Jason and Jamie Kentos, Eric and Bryan Williams, Justin and Dylan Canfield, Megan, Kayla, Kevin, and Michael Reinhart; her treasured great-grandchildren, Timothy, Jr. “TJ”, Aerilynn, Cullen, and Raelyn; her caring siblings, Ethel Courter, Edward “Sonny” Cook, and John Capitulik; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Public Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 23rd from 2 – 6 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, February 24th at 11 am at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rockaway Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Rockaway.
