Obituary of Hugh James Scully
Please share a memory of Hugh to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hugh James Scully passed away suddenly of a heart attack on Saturday, January 4th at the Billings Clinic Hospital in Montana. He shared 57 years of loving memories with family and friends before leaving this world too early.
Born in Manhattan to the late Robert “Bob” and Mary Scully, he was one of five children to bless the Scully household. He was raised in Denville and graduated from Morris Knolls High School. He attended Stockton University in Galloway, NJ, and graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He worked for Corporate Express in Whippany in the customer service department for several years, and then for UPS in Parsippany for many years before retirement in 2012.
After retirement he relocated to Colorado to enjoy the great outdoors and wildlife that he so loved. A true outdoorsman, he reveled in anything involving nature; be it hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, or photography. If he wasn’t spending time outdoors, he enjoyed listening to blues or jazz music, boxing, or playing table tennis.
Above all else, Hugh cherished spending time with his family, especially when he took his father on a trip to Ireland. He had a special bond with his nieces and nephews and took care of both of his parents when it mattered the most. Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his parents. We will never forget his compassion and willingness to help others; many people were fortunate to be recipients of Hugh’s random acts of kindness over the years.
He leaves only joyful memories to his loving siblings, Robin (Steven) Fitzgerald, Kevin (Joan) Scully, Gregg Scully, and Vicki Granzen; his caring nieces and nephews, Christine (Conrad) Manisera, Shaun (Laura) Fitzgerald, Kelly (Thomas) Petruzziello, Bobby Fitzgerald, Conor Fitzgerald, Jennifer (Jaime) Lijo, Laura Scully, Matthew Scully, Shauna Granzen, Jessica Granzen; his treasured great-nieces and nephews, Rocco, Ryder, Reece, Lilly, Ella, Paige, Noah, Olivia, Derek, Jaelynn,Jordana, Bronson, and Tahlia and many more extended family and dear friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 1st at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 15 Myers Avenue, Denville. Donations are being accepted in memory of Hugh by way of www.inmemof.org to help support the preservation of The Great Swamp. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Hugh here to continue to celebrate the life he shared with us.
