Townend, William H.S. Passed away on November 8, 2002. He was 85 years old.
Born in Chattanooga, TN, he had moved to East Orange, NJ, then to Denville where he lived since 1947.
He graduated with a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Rutgers University in 1940. He then went on to work for Western Union Telegraph Co. in New York City, (then in Upper Saddle River, NJ) for 29 years before retiring in 1980.
He had been a member of St. Marys Church in Denville, and a member of the Golden Age Club in Denville. He was also a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of the Lakes Council.
Surviving are his wife (since 1943) Mary (Downes) of Denville, Son: Joseph (Tucson, AZ), Peter (Medford, NY), David (Heath, TX), James (Palm Bay, FL), Michael (Ocoee, FL). His Daughters: Helen Heindel (Wilton, CT), Ann Duffey (Jefferson, MA), Marion Wells (Yardley, PA), and Rita Boratav (Ithaca, NY). He was the Grandfather of Twenty-four. His sisters: Elizabeth Stickles (Walnut, CA), and Marion Mather (Lancaster, CA).
Funeral services will be held at 9:00AM on Friday November 15 at the funeral Home, for a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Frances Chapel in Denville. Interment will be at Denville Cemetery. Friends may visit on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9PM.
