I am so sad and so sorry that I didn't get to say goodbye. Chris and Sean I am very sorry to you and for you I should have come but did not hear about this until my return from Ireland on the 26th when I turned on my cell phone and heard the message from Elliot. What a truly sad loss to everyone who had the pleasure to know him, with a tear in my eye I recall how much he loved you Chris and how his face would brighten whenever he spoke of riding or coaching or watching you Sean, you were the absolute light of his life. He was as lucky to have you two as we were all to have had him in our lives. I am very sad to have lost a friend and if there is anything we can do to help you through this please, please call.

I recall many joyous and pleasant holiday gatherings at Leo's & Chris's home. He was always so friendly and welcoming....even to my toy poodle Dakota... especially when their dog Daisy was alive. Dakota often found a comfortable and safe haven right next to Leo's hip! This past Christmas Leo ...after having endured so much the past year...arrived at Cindy's home for Xmas dinner and still had his wry humor and that sparkling glint in his eye and joined right in with the jokes and fun. And once again he was amused by my 15 yr. old poodle Dakota and played the bone game with her much to both of their delight. Although, there is so much more one could say about Leo, you know as poets through the ages have often stated, you know the "true worth" of a man who is good and kind to his dog--whether it be Daisy [his own] or Dakota [my dog]for they know the true worth, the value, and the goodness of their owner or friend. May you be well my friend from perhaps the only person you ever knew from a State called South Dakota. valerie * & dakota**

Unbelievable family, all three of you! Leo is such a lovable part of all our scouting memories with the St. Mary's "boys", leaders, and families. Camping and trips were more enjoyable with Leo and Sean there. A truly lovable person with a heart of gold and love of fun and life. Our thoughts and prayers are with both of you and your extended families.

Dear Chris, Sean, Mrs. Gunderman, and all the “G-Men”: Although I wasn’t a very close friend of Leo’s I did know him and a couple of his brothers from having grown up in Paramus. Over the last 20 years or so my wife Rose and I would occasionally see him jamming with the G-Men at some local club, at a party, or maybe at MaryAnn and Chuck’s and it was always a pleasure. He was a great guy, funny as hell, and boy could he talk your ear off! He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Our sincere and heartfelt condolences – Rose & Todd Jaretsky

We share Leo's loss with Chris and Sean, and all his family and friends.
He was a gift to our entire community.
We spent many afternoons and evenings with the Gundermans at Gardner Field and the other sports venues in town, and that time was always enriched by Leo's friendship, his humor, and his cheering for all the kids.
Leo touched many people, his warm, caring personality – and his humor - will be missed by all.
I'm sure there is a band in heaven where this very special person, and his guitar, will be welcome.
Thank you for sharing him with us, Chris and Sean.

Our family has had the tremendous privilege of the Gundermans as friends my entire life. Over the years, Leo has shared his musical gift, his gigs, his Marshall amp and his home with me, so that he and his brothers could make music with me and my friends. Like all brothers, the Gundermans surely often disagree; but the way they look out for one another is a lesson to anyone with a sibling. At a G-Men performance, it was always telling to observe them working so diligently with each other toward a common goal, and coming together so cosmically tight in a way only family could -- shared interest from shared blood -- resounding with a contagious joy. Anyone with half a heart couldn't see them smile at each other, without smiling themselves. (Leo's always struck you as particularly warm, sincere, approachable -- like you could ask the guy for anything.) Losing such a large part is an obvious void (for all family and friends, as well as for the brothers' chemistry). We may take some comfort in the knowledge that, as far-too-short as his life was, it was fruitful for what he had in his family and all who knew him, and for the memories he left for us that can never be taken away. And if I ever have the pleasure of seeing the brothers play again, I will still hear Leo's spot-on lead guitar harmony filling the space alongside Michael's, as if he's shouting down from some cloud, Les Paul in hand, going, "Guys, wait up."

I first met Leo on the commuter train from NYC to NJ. I struck up a conversation about the book he was reading and our friendship was born. We both loved to read and we had the same taste in books. We then discovered that both Leo and Chris and me and my wife loved to play cards. We promised to teach them how to play canasta, and in return, they showed us how to play spades. After a time or two it was always spades. I was always the underbidder, but thanks to my partner, we almost always won. Leo was the brother I never had, and I will never forget that during all he had to deal with, he *NEVER* lost his sense of humor. Leo, you are absent from playing spades with us, but you will always live in our hearts... Rest in Peace, my Brother.

I've lost my friend he was like my brother
a friend forever like no other.
when we were kids we often played
and when we got in trouble
after school we both stayed
through good times and bad
we went through the years
sometimes apart but our souls always near
I always felt welcome in his house
like one of the family without a doubt
and for a while we drifted apart
but still there was a connnection deep in the heart
cause true friends we would always be
connected by fate Leo and me
we played music together
and had some great fun
hit some bad notes
but mostly good ones
he is now gone from this place
but we'll meet again!
I know it's our fate
Rest in peace my dear friend
this is not the end
someday we'll be together again.
