Richard "Al" Wiedman passed away at his home in the Cedar Lake Section of Denville, NJ on October 10, 2014. He was 86 years old.
He served in the U.S. Army Special Forces during WWII when he signed up at just 16 years of age. Al was a lifelong Painter / Contractor and was self-employed: A. Wiedman Painting & Decorating in Denville, NJ. He was a master gardener, wood worker, bird watcher & Scouting mentor. He was a cub master of Cub Pak 31 in Denville for 8 years, a Denville Little League umpire, a school bus driver for over 40 years, a member and past president of the Denville Kiwanis Club, a member of Denville's Beautification Committee and since birth a member of the United Methodist Church of Denville where he thoroughly enjoyed 55 years as a member of the church choir as well as serving many years as the president of the men's club. He was an avid gardener and took on countless volunteer projects for the town of Denville. Over the years he was a recipient of the 2002 Denville Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year Award, the 2006 Denville Kiwanis Appreciation Award, the 2009 Denville Community Service Award and the 2011 Pride Council Muriel Hepner Volunteer of the Year Award. Most recently he enjoyed doing deck restoration, visiting Spring Lake, NJ and playing the slots at Mt. Airy Lodge with his wife Barbara.
Al was born and raised in Denville where he spent his entire life. Al is survived by his beloved wife Barbara R. Wiedman (Ryan) of Denville. For 27 years Al has been a loving husband and best friend to his wife Barbara who will forever cherish him. He is also survived by his children Cynthia Ackerman of FL, Wayne Wiedman of Denville, Donna Cook of Dover, Richard Wiedman of Denville, and Dennis Wiedman of Denville. His grandchildren Kelly, Jennifer, Kara, Sean, Justin, Nicole, Mellissa and Timothy as well as his great granddaughter, his two loving pups Josey & Ethan, 7 sisters- in-law, 6 brothers- in-law and many nieces and nephews also survive him. Al is preceded in death by 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and one brother-in law.
A memorial service under the direction of Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ 07834 will be held on Saturday October 18, 2014, at 11AM at the Denville United Methodist Church 190 Diamond Spring Rd. Denville, NJ 07834.
