I'm so very sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of meeting your parents when I worked at Charter Federal (now Sovereign Bank) in Denville many years ago. They were always so pleasant & friendly to all of us there. SO sorry to also hear about the passing of your Mom. She was a dear, sweet, warm lady & a good friend. There were many years between us, but I felt a real connection to her. When I married my ex-husband in 1997, I remember her actually coming to St. Catherine's for the ceremony...it meant a lot to me. I lost touch after changing jobs, but never forgot them. May they both rest in peace together now.

A huge smile and laughter was his calling card. A very gentle, upbeat and loving soul was his nature. Pranks, jokes and "pulling one over on you" were his delights. A fiercely devoted family man who made it his mission to be coach and cheerleader to his best friend and Brother Joe, "Sister" Mary and sisters Eve and Vera. Annie, his Purpose, the Light and Joy of his Life. That was my Uncle Daniel. You have blessed and enriched my life and yes, Uncle Daniel, you have contributed to my own warped sense of humor. You will be deeply missed.

Moments and Memories.
Hours of Uncle Daniel and Dad in the garage working on a 1956 Cadillac; his or ours. Vacations in two 1956 Caddies that, but for the obvious families in each, made it looked like members of the mob going for a meeting. Uncle D’s smile, near constant joking, and laugh.
A few vacation memories that I hope put a smile on some faces. Like, when we all stopped in either Canada or New York at a soft serve ice cream joint. The local bees seemed to enjoy the ice cream too. Poor Uncle D had this little tongue that he feverously worked on that cone to get it done before the bees had their way with it. The rest of us took refuge in the cars, not him. Smiling and licking while we laughed.
Oh, and then the time at the restaurant with the upstairs mensroom. That last time we were together I shared this with him and he also clearly remembered this occasion. It was after dinner and nature made its call and Uncle D went upstairs to obey its calling. In a few minutes, my Dad and I also needed to heed the call and on the way up the stairs, to the bathroom at the top of the stairs, there was a rush of men quickly leaving the bathroom… should I say running from that room… but where was Uncle D? Well, he was the cause of the mad exit… man oh man… later we all laughed about that.
He loved those hunting trips with his brother Matthew, his nephew Louis and brother-in-law Louie. He enjoyed having his little nephew (me and at least one occasion, Stephen) who were too young to carry a gun but who wanted to share the time with the men with them. Dang, the ride in Junior’s Corvair on a cold winter morning was a frigid journey as the heater was non-existent. But it was a good time. Having to walk through knee-high snow, around a hill, to flush out the game into their waiting rifles was perhaps a valid military maneuver but a hunting failure… all we got was frostbite and laughs.
More recently were the calls from Uncle Joe and he to my mom; several times a day. I regret that I did not take the phone more often on the occasions I was there when the calls came in. He and his brother reminded me of the old Denny’s commercials with the two sisters… always a joke in there... always a wonder with, what have you been up to? I hope he knew the smile that he put on his sister’s face as she would remark, “Those two are crazy”. Indeed.
Life is crazy, filled with ups and downs, laughs and tears, happiness and at times anger. It is part of the experience that we were blessed to have and to share. From the perspective of a nephew, my Uncle Daniel enjoyed every part of the experience, enjoyed sharing every part of it. The times that our lives crossed with his life gave us all the added texture, the fabric that makes our own lives more colorful, enriched, better.
Bob Hope had it right. Thanks for the memories Uncle Daniel, you will forever be a part of me. Enjoy that ice cream!

On a visit to N.J. about six years ago, Alan and I went to dinner with U. Daniel, we laughed, smiled and appreicated his sense of humor and gentle spirit. He will be missed by our family.
