I have never met a woman that was more passionate about what she loved, which was her art and her incredible children. Her attitude was infectious and she invited every lonely teenager, every hard-on-their-luck traveler, every cat into her home, into her life, and ultimately, we all left with her a piece of our love. I will never forget her sincerity in a world of fraud. Much love always.

Maria and I worked together at Ruppman Marketing in the 90's. We never agreed on anything politically, but we always had fun and spririted debates! I remember her as a fun, outgoing person, a hard worker, and a fiercely dedicated mother. She loved her kids more than anything else in the world. Maria will truly be missed.

Dear Remy, Amelia, Lois, and the Fluette family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Maria was a truly unique person. I remember her gifts of eloquent self expression (in both written and spoken word!), her unique sense of humor, her creativity, and her strong social convictions.... but most of all, her intense love for Remy and Amelia. My deepest sympathy to all of you. Sarah Gordon

Dear Lois and Family, I am so saddened to hear of Maria's death. My heart goes out to all of you. I remember all those visits you made with the camper to my Uncle Don's home in Bellingham, when I was a child. There would always be a family cookout. Maria was always the life of the party. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. My mom, Claire, also sends her heartfelt sympathy to you all. May you find comfort in your memories. Sincerely Charlie Cunha and Family.

At St. John's grade school Maria and our Kathy got in trouble for their yikity yak. Mostly I remember Maria's heart which was always in close relationship with her mouth. Her heart was a good and holy one, one that saw through injustice and took the side of he oppressed. Her father's daughter.

I met Maria when we both worked at Affina and we became instant friends. I watched her children grow into the fine young people that they are today and she has watched my grandchildren grow up. The story that sticks in my memory is of Mar...ia chasing a certain female down the street after she (Maria) had proved her point. It wasn't the fact that it had happened but no one but no one could tell a story like Maria. I still have to laugh when I think of her telling that story. Remy and Amelia, she was oh so proud of the two of you and rightfully so. Please keep us all updated on how the two of you are doing, we will ALL be your mother figures if even from a distance. Maria helped me so much when my Dad passed away because she knew what it was like to lose a father. As the song from West Side Story said, "I just met a girl named Maria and suddenly that name will never be the same to me." Lois, Remy and Amelia and Maria's brothers continued thoughts and prayers to all of you and I will light a candle here for Maria as well as a virtual candle on the Funeral Home website. God Bless each and every one of you!!

Although I never was fortunate enough to meet Maria, I have the blessing of calling Bill and Brooke Fleuette my friends. My heart is with you all during this grief-stricken time. My Our Lord help you through this bitterly painful and confusing time. May He wrap his arms around your entire family. As we, on Earth, struggle to make sense of the loss of your beloved Maria, may we be comforted that Maria's father Ernest is welcoming her home with open arms and joy. Much love and prayers to the whole family. Maria and I were good friends in elementary - - and in reading the remembrances I am so happy to know that she was still the vibrant, artistic, inspirational girl I always knew. Saw Maria at a class reunion and knew how much she loved her children and how proud she was. Lois & brothers, big hugs are sent from me to you. My deepest condolences at your loss. God bless you all.

The memories I have of Maria are mostly of a whirling ball of energy- long hair flying, sometimes singing "Wild Thing" with a band at Steb's. The other memory I have of her is of her well-worded letters to the editor of the Waterloo Courier. The ones I remember were advocating for the people that had no voice. Will miss you forever, Maria.
