Dad's Eulogy
Saint Thomas Aquinas said "the glory of God is in the morning." Good morning everyone.
Dad, I hope you don't mind I have to wear your glasses in order to read what I wrote. Father Rich, I know you and my father became friends which is why you're here. Thank you all for being here today to remember my father.
In my father's final days he tried to get out of bed. We asked him where he was going? He said, jogging...” My father did a marathon. We didn't know at the time when we brought him to the hospital that he would be doing the run for the roses. I was there for him when he crossed the finish line. He must have wanted it that way as we're now forever and always connected and he wants for me to share this with Bob, Anne, Eileen and everyone else who was there for him in his final days and hours. As he passed I was able to look into his eyes, give him a hug and let him know how much we all loved him and let him know how proud we are of him.
Anyway, the magnolia trees are in bloom this morning on Magnolia Ave. My father loved to sing and had a nickname as the canary at Manhattan College. He was terrific at singing the Irish songs. Dad was a lifeguard at Rockaway Beach in NY where he made numerous saves. He was our greatest friend and my greatest advocate. When I first moved back to Denville my father and I took a ride around town and he reminded me that I went to school at Lakeview as we drove past on Cooper Rd. Thanks Dad as I had almost forgotten. Dad always made you feel as you belong which is why he was a magnet as a personality. His stubbornness and persistence paid off for him as perseverance in many regards in his professional life. He cared more for us as his kids than he did for himself. He would have done anything for us and has always wanted the best for us. I feel he didn't want to be a burden to us. That's alright Dad. I know we have had our pain in the neck moments which must have been burdensome to you. Dad too, amongst many things was at times our Little League coach. Of course as things happened later in life, it was always “not little league anymore my man” as he might say. He has always been there for me in difficult times and in times of trouble.
When I look into the mirror I see more and more of my father. Our dear old Dad, your grandfather, your brother, your relative, your dearest friend lives in heaven and within each of us in our hearts. We are all forever and always connected. I love you so much Dad.. beyond how words can express it. Rest in peace ... until we're together again.
Your most loving son,
John

Bill and I recall many happy times spent with Jack at Colleen and Bill's family gatherings. They will always be cherished memories. Jack had a joyous ability to light up a room. He will be very missed, but not forgotten, and will live on in the hearts of his loving family and friends.

My "Dear Old Dad", You will be greatly missed and you will live on in our hearts and souls forever. I will cherish the memories and am so proud of the heritage that you have passed down to us. I am truly blessed.
May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand. ~Irish Blessing
I love you..."Ralph" (Eileen)
